Police in South Korea are investigating allegations of match fixing by professional players of sci-fi-themed strategy game StarCraft.

The game, made by World of Warcraft developer Blizzard, is enormously popular in South Korea.

Leagues of professional players compete in televised tournaments and receive coaching and sponsorship.

However, some players and officials are alleged to have accepted bribes from gambling websites to rig the games.

Starcraft 2 is imbalanced anyway, so it just adds to the rigness.

Wa-wa-wa-waaait.
Why have they used a SC2 picture for SC1 news?

More onto the news; its a shame, but its their choice.

It IS a sport there though. o.o...

1.
an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
2.
a particular form of this, esp. in the out of doors.

Those are the definitions of a sport :/ Only in the most LOOSE terms can associate gaming to a sport

starcraft definitely requires skill and it's also very competitive - and no where does it say it REQUIRES physical prowess or anything similar

Long hours of gaming are quite demanding on the brain and fingers, so it could loosely fall under the "athletic" umbrella.

Long hours of sitting on the couch are quite demanding to the brain and the legs (try getting up after), so I suppose "watching TV" is also a sport. :D

where's the competition? sure it might be a sport if 1 million people played it and there was a way of determining the winners/losers

also the definition of athletic:
good at athletics or sports

let SC be a sport, and then the definition of athletic fits

or the reverse: let soccer not be a sport, then it's not an athletic activity?

basically it's a dictionary game that sends you in circles

Or let SC not be a sport. Done. Your "circle" doesn't make sense, lulz. It's not conflicting at all, since both sides are on one side.

Er... okay, anyways, ah those cheaters!

Obviously SC is not a sport, I don't even see why you're arguing that.

E-sport maybe, but definitely not a sport. It's more detrimental to your physical shape than beneficial, unless you consider cup noodles and being overweight positives. (Which you just might if you consider SC a sport)
