StarCraft for Windows XP

got into a bit of trouble here. Just got a brand new dell with windows XP.... i get to the area of where i want the game installed (it automatically gives me C:/Program Files/Starcraft) and it give me some error that its "either too long, incomplete, or invalid, try something shorter like C:/Starcraft". Well, i thinking, nooooo i want it in my program files. But what the hell, maybe i can atleast install it this way. When i shorten it to C:/starcraft, it says there was a problem detected and that the starcraft install was going to shut down.

Do i need a patch and where can i find it? i looked on blizzard.com but maybe not hard enough? Anyway, it'd be a real help...and also a patch for brood wars, i need to install that too.

This is a windows problem, not a game problem.
Go to the microsoft website and see if they've got any info on this error.

Although Win XP isn't supposed to do this, maybe by shortening it it probably means to 8 letters or fewer since that's the way it was back in the days of Windows 3.1 and DOS. Starcraft has 9 letters in it. Maybe shortening it to SC or something would help.
