Starcraft hangs computer (XP)

Well I've hit rock bottom. I'm actually ASKING FOR HELP! Hear my desperate begs for justice!

I've got a HP with dual P4s @ 3.0gHz, 384 MB RAM, 128MB aTi mobile Radeon... blah blah blah. What you REALLY need to know is that I run Windows XP SP2, and that StarCraft doesn't really want to work. I've got fully updated drivers, a legal copy, defrag, virus check, the whole lot. What happens is during a game, at random, my computer decides to just... hang. No error message or restart... it just seizes up and then I have to force-restart it. Every time. I need some help, I love this game!

Just want to add... if BW works, I'm willing to cough up the terribly expensive 10$ to buy it.

If Starcraft does not work than it is a really good bet BW won't work because it is an add on to Starcraft, not a new engine.

Hmm...

Well I went ahead and got BW... oddly enough, when it freezes it doesn't make an .err file... equally odd, BW seems to work! Playing the game with the expansion works, but games using the regular SC still freeze. Very weird. I think it's just an incompatibility with SP2.. who knows. Thanks anyway.

Hmm - very interesting. Well if the game does not crash that explains the no .err file. Possibly you needed to patch the game. Brood War does not patch the game to the latest version but it patches it up to a certain point. Glad you got it working though - Have fun!
