starcraft science facility crash

when ever i click on my science facility my broodwar single player game crashes. help ?!?!

Have you tried reinstalling the game yet ? Are you using any hacks ?

i'm not using any hacks, or anything.

what folders do i need to copy so my reinstallation doesnt wipe my current game progress ?

Before reinstalling, look in the Starcraft folder if there is a folder called "Errors". If so, open any of the .err files you might find in it using Notepad and copy-paste it's first few lines here (don't mind all the random numbers and letters").

it goes on for a lot longer with lots of numbers, mostly zeros
and occasionally says things like :

....The file data is corrupt....

....StarCraft.exe...............

........C:\Program Files\Starcraft\StarCraft.exe

at the moment i am thinking re-install. awaiting instructions...

The errors suggests there is something wrong with your sound drivers. Install the latest drivers for your sound card.

To reinstall and save your single-player process, back-up the folders "characters" and "save" if you have saved during a mission.

re-install did nothing, i am downloading the sound drivers now.

it seems weird that a sound error would occur only when i click on my science facility. its so damn strange.

i'll be back when the drivers are done.

i am still downloading the drivers, but i just tried the game once more, to see if it happened in a custom game. and when it quit it gave me this error message:

This application has encountered a critical error:

The file data is corrupt.

Program: C:\Program Files\Starcraft\Starcraft.exe
File: C:\Program Files\Starcraft\Stardat.mpq

Press OK to terminate the application.

so, maybe it's this file thats the problem.

just had a look and its 64MB big !

well, lets wait and see what these sound blaster drivers do.

sorry above post was by me, forgot the name.

i have downloaded and installed the new drivers for my Soundblaster Live card. the error still occurs. no change at all.

AHH HA !!! before sending this reply i had an idea, and it worked !

you were totally right ! if i "disable building sounds" in the sound options screen, the error does not occur. i can simply play with them off.

i would like to fix this problem permanently, but i can live with it.

Wonder if you have a scratch in the CD or if you just got a "bad" copy of the game...

If you have a friend with SC, you could try re-installing with their cd, and using your cd-key for it.
