Stupid Question: Triggers

Ok, I know there's no such thing as a stupid question, what I mean is... I am at work, and can't stop thinking about ideas, but I can't just pop open the World Editor and check them out... (I mean if I could, I would never go home... chuckle)

So I am asking a question simply because I am unable to check it myself...

First, let me preface my question with an explanation.
I want to have "Dawn of the Dead" styled Zombies.
I want to start with one (or two) Zombies on my map.
If a Zombie attacks a unit-type, mostly non-mechanical / humanoid units, that unit has a 50% chance of contracting zombie-infection.
IF that unit has zombie-infection, when it dies it changes to a zombie.
IF that unit has zombie-infection it has to check every X minutes. On a failure, it dies.

Are these abilities possible through triggers/custom units?

Now keep in mind.
I am running a hacked Warcraft III right now.
I can't seem to keep the winning bid on a ROC/TFT combo on ebay for the life of me.
So I don't have the newest stuff, heck I don't even have a patched version...

So...
Is this possible as I sit?
Will it be possible once I get a legit copy of ROC/TFT???

Thanks in advance...

Ya I'm pretty sure that it could be done, just post back when you get the game and we'll help you set it up.

keeping on the "undead" theme, you should check out a cinematic called "Creatures of the Night"

probably start with the poison spell here....

IF that unit has zombie-infection, when it dies it changes to a zombie.

there's already a spell that does this I think, I remember we saw it being used in RoC Human Campaign Mission 5 (or something like that). If you can play the RoC campaigns, you should go check that mission out. I think the objective is for Athas to kill 100 villagers or something.

But, say the zombie is fighting your victim and hits the it more than once... Do you want the chance of infection to raise with every hit, or should it be 50% chance if it was hit even once?

I think we should just keep things simple and say 50% chance on any individual hit... :)

I HAVE IT!

wow... talk about mana from heaven...
An intern at work saw that I had a Warcraft III page up in my browser... He asked if I knew anything about the World of Warcraft package and whether it was out... I explained I had a pirate copy of Warcraft III and now I was fascinated with the world editor but I had to get a legit copy. He said he would give me his CD's...

Today, as I sit and eat my steak bagel from McDonalds he shows up at my desk with BOTH ROC and TFT!!!!

YIPPEEEEE!
Of course now I have to wait to get home to install and play it...
But, holy crap! I am so freaking excited...
Too freaking cool...

w00t! Just 2 questions:

1. Don't you get fired for doing personal things during work time?

2. WTF is a steak bagel?!?!

Steak Bagel

McDonalds has the most wonderful little breakfast sandwich.
The Steak Bagel.

I don't get fast food for breakfast that often, BUT if I am going to... I prefer the steak bagel.

It has sauteed onions, egg, very nice sized, textured, steak, and of course cheese and it's all on a toasted bagel.

Fired for doing personal things???
I work for "The Man" in all truth... City Government.
I am a lowly Office Admin waiting for a programmers position to open... I can get my job duties done in about 30 minutes-a-day... So, I have a little time to work on pet projects and the like. AND since most of them benefit the City nobody really feels like I am wasting time.

I do database work, mainly in Microsoft Access.. for instance, I am building a Roofing Management Database Application for our Public Works Department... the City pays me around $10 an hour (since I am JUST an Office Admin) versus my regular database fees of $50/hr so they SAVE big time... And I get a good reference when the freaking programmer spot opens... ugh!

But, I do a little bit of everything.
I am working on a project right now for those who are bored with Warcraft... www.warfleet.com is a nice little wargame. Try out the newbie game tho, otherwise you will get EATEN alive... It is a MASSIVELY multiplayer online free game... of course it is still pre-beta, so there are glitches, but it is an example of stuff I enjoy working on... I just joined the programming team, my work you can't even see yet, I haven't started playing with the live game, working on the beta-version right now...
I also am building my own cms in PHP (for those who don't know what a cms is, Content Management Suite) and I have a database I am building for a client on the side as well...

Don't know where that all came from, but there ya go.

WTF?!?! no wonder americans have health and obesity problems! that is the WORST breakfast food I have ever heard of!!! LOL

Dog Meat...

Yummm...
Man, if it ain't moving too fast or biting too hard... It's good to eat... I learned that in the Marines... chuckle

Well, funny thing.
The games I got? "The Frozen Throne" had no CD key.
CRAP!
Then it turns out I "DID" win a copy of BOTH games on ebay... ugh! A BNET Banned copy... crap! Talk about winning AND losing one in the same day... I didn't bid much tho, and I get a copy of BOTH games... Sooooo... I figure I can get the CD unbanned when I show that I am not the same person... I figure the Ebay receipt will do it... But we shall see...

I did get a keygen and installed TFT last night and WOW! The setup in the World Editor is much more fascinating... I am quite excited. I can't wait to start building stuff.

As for Darg's little comment about American's health and obesity...? Yep. We got it... massive problems... The problem is, it is cheaper in the states to eat high carbs rather than vegetables and proteins. So the average American eats a weeks worth of carbs in one meal, EVERY MEAL... AND instead of giving the body hydration to process it all? They have a couple sodas (more carbs). The average American body is fighting the eating style of a Sumo wrestler... ugh! Ah well, what can ya do? Eat away...

Later all...

Re: Dog Meat...

LOL last year, two obese women sued McDonals for being overweight. Its still pending. Its hillarious.

Blink is right. I can eat two double cheeseburgers at a buck a pop, or I can spend a fortune at the grocery store. Our foodbill, for myself and my married roomates, is about 650 a month. Its sick. That doesn't include all the times I eat fast food or go out. If I ate Mickie-D's twice a day, every day, I would only spend 120 bucks a month on double cheese burgers.

Everyone complains about gas being 2$ a gallon. But hey. Both my vehicles are japanese, and I hardly spend anything on gas. Lower food! We all have to eat! :(

so is fresh food heavily taxed or something? Its priced pretty well over here, no taxes on it to encourage people to buy it.

And I think I need to go on the Ryoko diet, its perhaps the only way I will ever put on any weight LOL 650 bucks a months is insane :)

Food

Yeah, regular foods are priced crazy like... The poor in america can only afford starchy foods like Hamburger Helper or McDonalds which are loaded in carbs and light on proteins... It blows. The wife and I go back and forth on low-carb meals whenever we can afford it, but it is SO damn expensive.

We plan on moving to Ireland for good in a couple years tho, I hope they have good prices on regular foods, but if they don't.. I'll just do a garden thing!

How about ... you try cooking your food.
Dont tell me vegetables are expencive too :D

Vegetables? Cooking?

Well, let's see...
Why don't I cook my own food?

I am stuck at the office for 9 hours a day.
When I get home, I have to:
Do Laundry / Dishes
Clean Living Room / KItchen
Care for Wife / Pets
and Sometimes, if the wife doesn't have the energy?
I get to cook dinner AND clean up after it...

See, my wife has Multiple Sclerosis. So she doesn't get to choose when she can get around during the day... So I stay pretty damn busy, especially on days when she is wiped out...

Those nights when I have to cook as well? I usually have gotten home and then I stay busy till 11pm, then I get to go to bed. Now I don't know about you? But working 16 hours non-stop just kinda blows, even tho I do love the hell outta my wife. And besides, I have a ton of hobbies I prefer to spend SOME time on...
Programming, Fire Spinning, Reading, Watching Movies, and especially GAMING! Sooooo, when I can just drop a few bucks and dinner is prepared for me? Well, that gives me some time to play... or pursue side-jobs for extra cash.

So to answer your question?
I do try "cooking my food" and YES, vegetables ARE expensive. A single meals worth of vegetables is equal to or just a little more expensive than a simple meal from McDondals. But even if they weren't expensive? You can't live just off vegetables... not happily at least.

Hope that helps... It is soooooo annoying to hear people come across like EVERYONE has an average home life. Mine is FAR from average. SO forgive me if I am a little more vehement that is necessary

I kind of get a feeling I wasnt the one that pissed you off today...
And I dont assume you have an average home life, btw... I dont assume anything, I dont know you.

Frankly, I dont think I was unpolite in anyway. The way I see it one second we were having a casual conversation about food, the next your trowing rocks at me...

To change the mood of this whole tread a bit... you mentioned some pets... what are they?

Sorry man... Didn't mean to come across like I was throwing rocks.

<adjusting communication levels>

No, I was just venting, I didn't realize it came across like I was venting AT you... sorry, just get annoyed some days at life... I mean I WISH I could avoid fast food... THAT would be nice... I used to live a very healthy lifestyle before the wife was diagnosed. Now fast food means an evening doing something we enjoy... versus too much cleaning...

And for the record, I don't think you were impolite as well.
So please accept my apology, and we shall move on...

Pets.
We have four cats.
I had a single black female cat named Shade and my wife had a single orange/white male cat named Aethena when we got married. We have since rescued two abandoned kittens and raised them to health over the last couple years. So we have a HUGE fluffy cat named Topsy and a sleek gray cat named Roo.

With the insanity behind life, for now at least, those are our kids... chuckle

lol u have gone to talking about everything in this post:D lol

Luckily I live in an age with electricity so it's way fucking faster, but when I was just a boy trying to find my place I had some hardcore chefs that made use do things like that by hand. It is WAY easier to get right by hand because you control it and can feel it, but it takes soooooo much longer. And on the scale a modern kitchen requires... I serve 400-500 guests on average per day right now, if I had 100 then we could do things way better
  • Varine Varine:
But we can't do that. In the winter yeah, but I HAVE to get people through here right now so I can afford the staff that we CAN do that. We have about 100 days of summer, and if that summer doesn't make us what it will, then I can't operate the other most of the year with my staff. The owner is talking about closing two days a week to cut down on labor, I told him he should cut down on vacations and it did not go great. I do think I won though, I have to keep my fucking core staff and they have to be gainfully employed
  • Varine Varine:
Sure some of them might take a second job, but I can't just cut my entire staff to unlivable hours, nor can I can cut them off all winter if I want them to come back.
  • Varine Varine:
And also, there is no fucking way I'm pulling these hours come september. I only do this right now because I have to, the second I don't have to be the one doing it I won't be
  • Varine Varine:
I have a 5 person core staff in the kitchen, not including me or Chef Ben
  • Varine Varine:
Though two of those people are likely not making it this year. One of them has been replaced, the other I am kind of trying to. He's being a giant bitch, today I had to get onto him because in the three hours before I left he had taken like thirty minutes for cigarette breaks
  • Varine Varine:
And he was also complaining to me the other day that he was out of weed so couldn't smoke any before work that day, and was confused about why I was annoyed he was telling me, his boss, that he is smoking weed everyday before work.

  • Varine Varine:
Like yeah I can tell. I don't need to fucking know.
  • Varine Varine:
So now he's getting scrutinized and will not be top of the list. I know I don't have the smartest people but I do expect them to have some common fucking sense
  • Varine Varine:
I did do a rare thing for me and hire a girl last month without warning. Everyone was made at me because I started her at like 21, but she worked with me before and I was like don't care. She made 19 at her old job and I wanted her to come work with me, she is the best
    +1
  • Varine Varine:
I'm going to get her a raise at the end of the summer. She wants to go to school again, but I want her to still work with me so.... she kind of can just tell me what the price is. I can go to 25 if she keeps up. I need to get her onto line more, that's what she wants, but I need her where she is and it's not fair that she doesn't get the little bit of raise that comes with it. She can do it no problem, I've worked with her there.
  • Varine Varine:
It's just hard to move and train people unnecessarily right now. And also the line fucking sucks, it's not any more fun. This is turn and burn so I have the bankroll, and everyone suffers for it
  • Varine Varine:
Eventually we'll get it balanced, we'
  • Varine Varine:
we're starting online orders and stuff, but I also turn that off all the time because I barely keep up trying to be the best at Sysco shit
  • Varine Varine:
I think it's gonna be a good fall and winter though. We're going to have a good staff, they will get along, they will be able to manage the workload and the complications, they know how to really cook this year, like every person on line knows their steak temps. Some of them use thermometers a lot and they don't always use them right, but they do know how to do it. Failure, especially in this field, is the only way to get better. They'll get it
  • Varine Varine:
They won't get feel down while they do the thermometer, but we didn't have an instant read probe when I was learning. Like they did but god knows how off it is, you HAD to do it by feel. Even if the chef was fine with me bringing my own, it takes too long. Poke and know

I recently had an experience with a waiter that really brought down @Varine's point about them being in sales. The first waiter just asked "anything else? deserts?" and when the table shook their head said "ok" and left. Then the other waiter came in and started going off describing the deserts and you could see the heads turning, and they finally got a bunch of deserts
  • jonas jonas:
makes sense if you consider that the tip is basically a commission on sales
