OK, I know the basics of triggers. I get the events and conditions parts, but what I don't know is how to WRITE the trigger...I've seen different triggers with different types of codes (or so it seems to me) and I don't know if it depends on the type of trigger, or the result you want the trigger to have. So I'm asking if someone could please just kind of give me a bit of help...(No, BrokenX, I'm not asking for triggers, or to start from square one, I'm trying to be specific...)

I'm not completely sure what you mean... you just have to insert events that need to happen to activate the trigger, conditions that need to be valid for the trigger to continue, and actions to tell the game what to do if the events happen and the conditions are true. You really don't have to "write" anything.

k lol if you mean by being Specific you want help... what do you want help with first be more specific with that and i'll try to help you from there... other wise your just saying you want help and i can't help you unless u tell me what u want to do... give me an example what you want done and i'll see if i can try to help you ok?

One word, expriement. There is no one that will be willing to take their time to teach a stranger how to make complicated trigger work. Make a new map, add some triggers, and see what happens. Open the Monolith map made by Blizzard in your Scenario folder for more examples. Report back here when you have a problem and we'll gladly help you, but we will not be teaching you how to do this.

yea like conan said like if you know what you want to do with the triggers and have seen some map just like it or a little bit like it you could open the map and check it out. if it doesnt totally solve ur problem then experiment some and maybe youll get it right :)

Such an idiot

As the title would suggest: i'm such an idiot...i never even really played around with triggers before, so i thought you had to write all that coding and stuff...embaressed? um, pass...anyway, since i'm new at this, i figured i'd start with something that seems pretty simple: a hero reviving trigger...all i want to make it do is 'when player one's hero dies, revive it at player one's starting location' ...now, i look at all the options and stuff for the events and conditions and this is me:  ...um...help! lol, idiot in need, here!

TY for the patience...and the help...and ... JUST TY ALRIGHT?!

OK, i did what you asked and tried something while i was waiting...It didn't work, probabl because i'm missing something, and pelase don't laugh, this is the first time i've tried this...Anyway, this is all i did because i didn't understand half of it anyway
Event:
Unit - A unit owned by Player 1 (Red) Dies
Conditions:
(Unit-type of (Triggering Unit)) is Equal to Hero
(Player 1 (Red) controller) Equal to User
Action:
Wait 2.00 seconds
Hero - Instantly revive (Revivable Hero) at ((Matching player) starting location), Hide revival graphics

So, anyone care to tell me what i did wrong?

Maybe I've got it this time...

Ok, I looked at the dude's hero reviver thing, and I think i have it...a lot of his trigger seems to be about the timer, though...Oh well, let me try to change my stupid one and I'll brb...

Well, lets see:
Code:
Event:
Unit - A unit owned by Player 1 (Red) Dies
Conditions:
(Unit-type of (Triggering Unit)) is Equal to Hero
(Player 1 (Red) controller) Equal to User
Action:
    Wait 2.00 seconds
Hero - Instantly revive (Revivable Hero) at ((Matching player) starting location), Hide revival graphics

You, most likely, don't need the "(Player 1 (Red) controller) Equal to User".

Then, for "Hero - Instantly revive (Revivable Hero) at ((Matching player) starting location)"...

Revivable Hero?
Who's that?
You will want to revive "dying unit".

And, "matching player" start location.
There is no matching player here...
Change that to "owner of (dying unit)"'s start location.

Here's the new thing

I changed it to:
Events
A unit owned by player 1 red dies
Conditions
triggering unit is a hero equal to true
actions
hero - instantly revive revivable hero at matching player start location, hide revival graphics

So i don't know what i need to change differently then last time, ace, so if you could look at that new one, please

I'm mostly seeing that you're not reading much of what's written...
Ah, well... :)

Hero - Instantly revive (Dying unit) at ((Owner of (Dying unit)) start location), Hide revival graphics

There is no "revivable hero", unless the event was "unit becomes revivable".
There also is no "matching player", that's only for conditional tests inside "pick every player..."

You can put the "wait" back in.

Heh, oops

Actually, I did change it, i just didn't write what i was reading in the trigger thingy...and isn't that just a kick in the nads, i hit test map and won on accident -.- oops

I feel special!

Yay, I wrote a trigger! lol, it worked, and i made sure to test it by running my hero into a mine with creeps :-D THANKS ACE! Now, what do I want to try next? lol...

Throw me another idea to try and then fail at so i can ask more questions! :-D

Next lesson!

The next thing I'd like to figure out is variables...that confuses the hell out of me...and the types of triggers, so i know what i might want to use for my maps...

Variables are used to store information. Everything from numbers and strings to units and unit groups, you can store in variables. Say in a TD for example, you have lives. The number of lives are stored in a variable. Lets say you have 20 lives, so the variable's value will be set to 20. Now when you lose a life, you can use a trigger to subtract that life from the lives variable (lives = lives - 1). And when the variable reaches 0, you can use that as an event to trigger defeat or whatever you want.

i Think you should play around with triggers more... just cause you figured one trigger out doesn't mean u mastered it ... work on things you know some what of or you will never learn do things that you don't understand try different things...

TY for the info and help

Ok, I guess I'll mess around...probably blow a computer or two up first ;) but i'll get there! anyway, thanks a lot for the help, it's at least nice to know i'm starting to understand...and yeah, i know i'm not good at them yet, but i'll get there...i just kind of wanted to learn some basic things for now, and then get more complicated later...ty though!

I think on the new one they did change it, but idk. I don't really care whatever the government is doing right now because it's consistently absurd. Like what is RFK doing in charge of health anything? I love the bear story because WTF was that, but also, pretty much every time he talks it's WTF. Like even his voice sounds microwaved

The pyramid is fucking dumb as shit, no matter how you arrange it.
  • Varine Varine:
It's actually remarkably easy to make mayonnaise though. Fun fact, it USED to kind of be a French mother sauce. I believe that Careme considered it one, it may have been aioli but that has also built a different meaning than it used to. An aioli is just mayonnaise I mixed with other shit typically, I didn't start it don't come at me
  • Varine Varine:
It's very hard to do it on a large scale though
  • Varine Varine:
Depending on how you pour the oil the consistency can vary wildly, but that's true for most emulsions. I can only make about two quarts at a time with my robo coup, and if I have to make several in series because I forgot to order it becomes really obvious even when I do it. We have to wait and mix them all together to make sure we have the same thing.
  • Varine Varine:
Hollandaise is also kind of like that, emulsions require a very steady hand to do exactly the same every time.
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I live in an age with electricity so it's way fucking faster, but when I was just a boy trying to find my place I had some hardcore chefs that made use do things like that by hand. It is WAY easier to get right by hand because you control it and can feel it, but it takes soooooo much longer. And on the scale a modern kitchen requires... I serve 400-500 guests on average per day right now, if I had 100 then we could do things way better
  • Varine Varine:
But we can't do that. In the winter yeah, but I HAVE to get people through here right now so I can afford the staff that we CAN do that. We have about 100 days of summer, and if that summer doesn't make us what it will, then I can't operate the other most of the year with my staff. The owner is talking about closing two days a week to cut down on labor, I told him he should cut down on vacations and it did not go great. I do think I won though, I have to keep my fucking core staff and they have to be gainfully employed
  • Varine Varine:
Sure some of them might take a second job, but I can't just cut my entire staff to unlivable hours, nor can I can cut them off all winter if I want them to come back.
  • Varine Varine:
And also, there is no fucking way I'm pulling these hours come september. I only do this right now because I have to, the second I don't have to be the one doing it I won't be
  • Varine Varine:
I have a 5 person core staff in the kitchen, not including me or Chef Ben
  • Varine Varine:
Though two of those people are likely not making it this year. One of them has been replaced, the other I am kind of trying to. He's being a giant bitch, today I had to get onto him because in the three hours before I left he had taken like thirty minutes for cigarette breaks
  • Varine Varine:
And he was also complaining to me the other day that he was out of weed so couldn't smoke any before work that day, and was confused about why I was annoyed he was telling me, his boss, that he is smoking weed everyday before work.

Like yeah I can tell. I don't need to fucking know.
  • Varine Varine:
So now he's getting scrutinized and will not be top of the list. I know I don't have the smartest people but I do expect them to have some common fucking sense
  • Varine Varine:
I did do a rare thing for me and hire a girl last month without warning. Everyone was made at me because I started her at like 21, but she worked with me before and I was like don't care. She made 19 at her old job and I wanted her to come work with me, she is the best

  • Varine Varine:
I'm going to get her a raise at the end of the summer. She wants to go to school again, but I want her to still work with me so.... she kind of can just tell me what the price is. I can go to 25 if she keeps up. I need to get her onto line more, that's what she wants, but I need her where she is and it's not fair that she doesn't get the little bit of raise that comes with it. She can do it no problem, I've worked with her there.
  • Varine Varine:
It's just hard to move and train people unnecessarily right now. And also the line fucking sucks, it's not any more fun. This is turn and burn so I have the bankroll, and everyone suffers for it
  • Varine Varine:
Eventually we'll get it balanced, we'
  • Varine Varine:
we're starting online orders and stuff, but I also turn that off all the time because I barely keep up trying to be the best at Sysco shit
  • Varine Varine:
I think it's gonna be a good fall and winter though. We're going to have a good staff, they will get along, they will be able to manage the workload and the complications, they know how to really cook this year, like every person on line knows their steak temps. Some of them use thermometers a lot and they don't always use them right, but they do know how to do it. Failure, especially in this field, is the only way to get better. They'll get it
  • Varine Varine:
They won't get feel down while they do the thermometer, but we didn't have an instant read probe when I was learning. Like they did but god knows how off it is, you HAD to do it by feel. Even if the chef was fine with me bringing my own, it takes too long. Poke and know
