that anime with...

i remember some anime from the 90's.. but i dont remember the title.

all i got are these details:

the protagonists are a teenage guy and girl.
(i dont know their relationship...)

their together in a team fighting some evil from space.
(the series is not set entirely at space, starts at a planet)

they have 2 giant robots (i dont remember who owns who)

a blue dragon and red bird thing.

here;s the catch!:

sometimes when they battle the enemies,

another giant humanoid robot mysteriously appears.
(nobody knows what or why, but it;s on their side.)

but there's more:

it turns out that this mysterious humanoid robot can combine.
with either of the two robots.

forming either a humanoid+dragon or humanoid+bird robot!

that's all i could remember.. i dont know how the story ends or begins.

Anybody there who can give me a clue?

by anime i think you mean japanese, but im not sure so its hard for me to search through every anime from 1990
