I got so bored from waiting that I wrote this. It's about a play, The Crucible, that I recently saw.
The Cursed Town
My town has been cursed with the plague of death,
But it was not the curse from the devil’s breath.
This was the curse which God gave to man;
This was the curse of being able to plan.
They came within, wielding their arms,
Yet such things, at first, gave not cause for alarm.
For their horrible weapons of death and terror
Were mere books in which religion saw no error.
They carried their Bibles and devil-destroyers,
And set up a court where there were no just lawyers.
They accused the innocent women and child,
And when these died, they could only smile.
Their preaching appeared by all to be sound,
But it was really a pact by Lucifer bound.
Everyone who was left not accused
Refused to believe that they were being used.
Used not only to spread word of the hanging,
But also to silence their horrible banging.
The banging of corpses and vanishing hope
Did they hide from the people like the command of the Pope.
The pleas of those who were wrongly convicted
They made from their people totally restricted.
The so-called bringers of God and light
In truth brought upon their people armies of plight.
Yet even as there were nearly none left,
Of the truth, they remained piteously bereft.
And when the last man was hanged by the neck,
The real devils left the town to create another wreck.
