Ok me and Joccaren have agreed to take a little break since we are both involved in school exams/finals. So i will probably start up this project again starting Dec 18 when Christmas break starts.

Terraining of the City and the enemy camps are complete, Indoors of buildings and surrounding forests/Mountains still need work. I will probably release a test map with about 20 waves by the end of this year.

Yeah, my computer is also having a few problems but should be fixed by Dec 18. Trying to send a pack before then though.

im starting this project up again now! Hopefully have a release out soon and i'll need lots of testers.

And instead of saving and loading heroes I am going to use a system that only saves your experience(food) and you are able to load it to unlock better heros and items.

Also i think i may switch the format to WCU... since my doodads are running out and i will eventually need more to finish indoors and other areas of the map.
So is it worth switching to WCU or will it just make it buggy and not work? or is Newgen a better solution, can it increase doodads and tilesets?

may it be that you are talking about WEU (World Editor Unlimited)? well its pretty much outdated, the most of its function either dont work or arent worth using because there are alot better ways in NewGen and Co.

And yes NewGen can disable limits as well because it has UMSWE implemented as well as WEU does. besides its alot better and still up to date (more or less)

yes i meant WEU ofcourse, and thanks for info. Ill talk it over with my partner because if we wan this project to expand as far as terrain goes we will need these updates one way or another

OK, I have finally uploaded a test map for the game on epicwar.. Please try it out if you have time, you can play with 3 players but 6 is suggested. Give feedback to us on this thread and we will try to continue on this project as much as we can!

the terraining is not bad, however the light effects are quite annoying. i would rather cut them out or reduce their number.

the town at its own is quite detailed but without a map (or the pathfinding AI of your hero) you wouldnt get to any point of the map without searching for the way about 10 minutes.

the neutral guards owned by the town are rather useless. they are standing at the most impossible positions. maybe add some AI for the town defense so they wont just be useless observers but rather a help in the battle.

the inventory system is plain aweful. if you buy equipment you can not carry any potions or quest items (this is an RPG so i suppose their will be quest items) anymore. you should think of adding an inventory system.

the archers on the towers are not getting attacked by the creeps. they just pass and take the archers fire.
it seemed to me as if the defensive catapults got an AoE damage which hurts allys as well. not that this is bad but rather annoying, uneffective and not realistic if they fire that AoE attack into their own city.

more over the time you got until the first wave attacks is way too short. if you start the game you dont even know where they are coming from or where to go. they just start rushing in before you got what the game is all about.

the shortkeys for the skills are quite bad. come on, the shortkey [A] for the bladefury (or however it was called) ability?

i would advice you to add some kind of cinematic for the final version in which is told what the whole story is about

and i would like it much more if the objective wouldnt be to defend the king of the town (sorry but this is so worn out) but maybe many little objectives which got to be solved the best you can. like defending the townspeople. protecting the barracks and the treasury and maybe saving some other special locations/citizens.



i know this was alot of bad ciritque but what i am trying is to help you make your game a bit better.

Thanks a ton for the feedback! I can't expect much positive feedback in these early trial stages anyway, and also considering this is my first defense type game.

Anyways, i've been testing online and with friends so a lot of the issues you have brought up have been addressed for the next release. I made teleporters for the heroes to easily get to where they need to defend, the guards are controlled by all players playing the game, it is your job to properly set them up to defend areas, upgrade them, and support the heroes- So i dont think they are completely useless, though i might implement AI later, i think this method is fine for now. The map is supposed to be a defense style map rather than an RPG, so i don't think i need a larger inventory than 6, and their are currently only 5 item classes so there is always slot for potions / quest items. The catapults no longer damage allied units, The first wave i just arranged to begin on the first eve of night.. I can easily change that if it is too stressful to set up quickly. Hotkeys have been properly fixed... I didn't spend too much time setting up button positions/hotkeys/tooltips but these will be fixed for next release. I have no experience with good cinematics, but i can try and learn some techniques and make one for the intro. As for defending the king, I just tried to make it as simple as possible but as the game evolves i can create multiple defeat conditions..
Anyways glad you decided to test my game and i hope that you will test some later versions as well.

For the upcoming version I have implemented:
-All the fixes listed above
-save load that saves the players experience(food) which can be used to purchase better heroes
-More items
-More heroes
-creep nerfs
-More Acts

We will also need some epic loading screen! I dont have photoshop or any image editing tool so i can look into getting it and trying to make one..

I will hopefully play this soon, but the looks of it so far seem like Metal and Magic by Zync to me. I will hopefully give proper feedback on the weekends, when I have time to properly play the map, :)

Thanks, we will be releasing a big update soon.. As soon as i get the waves complete and this new version will be the true Beta for testing, with up to 10 players able to play.

After we release that we will upgrade the map to Newgen and add dungeons, A Gladiator Arena, Quests, more heroes, more items and more buildings.

The hunters sleep arrow doesnt seem 2 be anygood use, u cant dmg them while they sleep, and the "fire archer" should be able 2 heal him self.

    Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality

    Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
