They are an organization dedicating to helping people actually is full of crap, and doesnt do much. First off they are very very miniscule compared to any other efforts launched by people where they help. The only time the red cross makes a real difference, is when they are the only people helping. Other than that, they are dwarfed compared to other programs.
Look at new orleans. Red Cross rasied 500 million dollars. Good? Who gives a crap. The government put out 50 billion in immediate needs. Thats 50,000 million. 100 times as much as the red cross raised. The red cross as well is more interested in getting statistics out of thier accomplishments than anything else. They have 500 million dollars, they got to be getting something done.. so they feed people and get the number on every tv station out there. million meals, 2 million, 3 million. Not to mention they were NEVER in New Orleans. They didnt help the people stranded in new orleans EVER. They helped the people who were already at shelters and already had food. The people who had to loot grocery stores for food really were on thier own. Red Cross was never in New Orleans. Didnt hear that Statistic? What percent of time did Red Cross spend in New Orleans? 0%. More stats red cross, please.
How about thier stats. Thier commitments. Currenty they say 91 cents of your dollar goes to the humanitarian effort. EXTREMELY VAGUE. That means right off the bat basically a tenth of your money is gone solely to pay for employees. It wont help anyone. And i wouldnt put it behind the red cross to put employee salaries under the label of "humanitarian effort" as well. That 9% they take could just be profit, helping to pay the $250,000+ salary of the head director of a non-profit volunteer staffed organization. They got what, 40,000 volunteers. Thats 120,000 meals they need to serve a day.. That sure buffs thier stats a bit. 1 million meals served sure. How many of that was to your own volunteers instead of the people suffering.
That 91 cents you send usually is 25 cents go direct aid. 25%. A quarter of what you send is direct aid relief. You give $100 only $25 actually helps someone. 25% is direct relifief. 25% usually goes to a general fund set up for any disaster they want to give for. Before 9-11 all money set for relief was put in a general fund and spent whereever they wanted. Then people got pissed off because they were donating for 9-11 and it wasnt being spent there. There was a major scandal. Missapropriation of funds was revealed, the head director quit. Red Cross = POS. They changed it now so you can say where the money goes. Now they have a Gulf Coast fund or Hurricane fund im not sure. Either way thats an exTREMELY broad topic of relief.
the other 41 cents is spent on other stuff (its actually really hard to find sites that discuss where rc spends thier money. I did see that for the tsunami relief all they did was give money to the indonesian government, a very small poriton of what they raised, and the gvt. would spend it on relief. In case you live under a rock the indonesian gvt. kind of sucks ass, and its no secret, and they spent the money on weapons to use against thier own people). I also saw how they accept other organizations under the red cross, and muslim ones (but its called a red cresent becasue the islamic symbol isnt a cross its a cresent of a moon. so red cresent). But they refused to accept jewish/israeli organizations because they use a star (star of david). I tohught that was a bit messed up. They refused a humanitarian organization beause of its symbol? anti-semittic imo.
Dont give to red cross. red cross sells blood to hospitals and blood banks, red cross sells donated goods. red cross really doesnt raise that much in comparison to anything else. red cross is a corrupt agency. give your money somewhere that actually does something. salvation army > red cross.
