Time Start vs Time Use?

Im looking under the "cost" tab of an ability and under both "charge" and "cooldown" there are time start and time use. What's the difference between the two? I played around with them for a while and couldn't figure it out.

Also, what's the difference between a "charge" recharging and a "cooldown" ?

Time Start is how much time has to pass after the unit is created before you can use this ability. This is only paid once.
Time Use is how much time has to pass after this unit uses this ability before you can use it again. This is WC3's "cooldown".


The difference between charge and cooldown is that charge allows you put a limit to how many times you may use an ability for that particular unit (think of Ammo,) while cooldown is unlimited.

I see, is there anyway to make it so the charges all come back at once?

Example) you have 3 charges max, 3 charges starting, and 1 charge per use. After a charge is used (or 2 or all 3 are used) then 3 seconds later the charges are replenished to max amount. But NOT 1 charge per second.

So you want an unit to be able to fire it's ability a maximum of 3 times every 3 seconds?

You could do it in triggers:
Event
-> Unit Uses Such Ability
Action
-> Wait 3 Seconds
-> Add Charges to Unit
