What would be the best way of implementing WC3 style trees in my map?

Make a mineral field clone and change its actor to look like a tree?

basically, i know in island defense they just used minerals with a custom tree model, pretty sure there are a few good tree models out there and even a few workable ones in game
did you want them to be harvest-able? or no
