I'm having trouble accessing battl.net. Everytime I try to connect it gives me the following message: Unable to connect to Battle.net. If you are using a modem to access your service provider and are not configured for dial-up networking, you may have to initiate the connection manually. I don't completely understand the message. Could you possibly help me with this problem?

Have you ever been able to play on battle.net with your current hardware and software?

Who is your ISP?

Battle.net is designed to work with any 32-bit TCP/IP connection, however your Internet Service Provider or network may use a firewall or proxy server that is configured to restrict ports that Battle.net needs to send and receive game data. Contact your ISP or network administrator and ask them to open Port 6112 to send and receive both UDP and TCP packets.

Solution 1 of 1

AOL users
To connect to Battle.net via AOL, make sure you are running the latest version of the AOL software.

To check the version you are using:

Run AOL
Click on Help from the menu
Select "About America Online"
For information on downloading and installing the latest version of AOL:

Connect to AOL
Click on the Keyword button
Type "UPGRADE" then click GO
Select the latest AOL version available.
Follow the Online Instructions
Make sure you are connecting to AOL with parental controls turned off. If you have continuing problems try logging onto AOL using the Main Account. You can also try connecting to AOL using a different local access number.

Macintosh users
In addition to the above...
Make sure the "quit other applications" option is unchecked in the startup option menu. To view the startup options hold down the option key while you double click on the games application icon from your hard drive. Then make sure the "quit other applications" option is unchecked and click continue.

If you continue to have problems connecting, quit the game and delete the games preferences file.

If this error happens at irregular intervals, Battle.net may be down for maintenance - please try again later. Otherwise, please try the following steps in the order they appear. If step 1 does not help, proceed to step 2 and so forth:

Return to the main support menu, select the product you are using then check the patch information to make sure you have the latest version installed.
If you use a modem to dial up to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), ask your ISP for an alternate phone number to try.
Open the folder where you installed the game and find the bncache.dat file. Select this file and push the 'F2' key to rename it. Rename bncache.dat to bncache.old and push the 'enter' key.
If this fixed the problem please email the bncache.old file to Blizzard Technical Support (http://www.blizzard.com/support/information/contact_info.shtml), along with information on the problem you were having.

Checking your Internet connection:
Bandwidth Speed Test: If you are still having problem you may want to check your current connections available bandwidth at (http://msn.zdnet.com/partners/msn/bandwidth/speedtest500.htm).

Internet Traffic Report: The Internet Traffic Report (http://www.internettrafficreport.com/) monitors the flow of data around the world. You may want to visit this web site to get an idea about the reliability of your region's connections.

If the Internet connection information shows you have a connection below what you think your modem, and ISP should be connecting at, please contact your ISP to see if there are any problems with their service.

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Next on the punch list: Update the server to Ubuntu 24.04.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:
oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
