I've had some trouble installing FrontPage 2000. I tried installing it once and it got an error msg but hit a key before I could read what it said.

I'm running Windows 98 SE and installing MS FrontPage 2000 SR-1

Front page is still in the add/remove programs section and I don't know how to get rid of it, when I try it says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed"(this drives me nuts just for the fact that it isn't). I just go and manually remove files after this...

When i try to install, it brings up a msg "MS FrontPage 2000 installation was not completed successfully. Click "cont." to resume, "cancel" to exit"
I click continue
Install screen comes up and says the normal "preping to install MS FP2000SR-1, etc..."
It starts installing, moves to Windows configureing FrontPage then the error pops up
an Ie5wzd : "Illegal operation, will shut down yadda yadda yadda" the normal error crap... after this the progress bar stops and drive stops reading from CD.

that is what happens folks... I'm guessing IE5wzd is the install wizard....

Anyone have any clue what todo for this? I'd like to be able to use FrontPage. Maybe going into the registry and manually removing it from the add/remove and all.... i dunno

Yeah, Ion over at OTS told me the same thing... gotta go thru the registry now and find that junk... I think I got all the folder removed already.

heh, hey Wargy, wasn't it about 2 years ago to the day that you helped me with some registry problem.... Brings back memories of B.net and when TG had the whole Diablo mainpage theme going on lol.

hehehe memories
shouldn't be hard to find tho
local machine . software etc etc

yeah, i cleared out the registry... yeah it didn't do anything.... i think i'm just gonna go find a warez copy for DL cause a real copy doesn't seem to work

maybe the cd is screwed up (?)

in my experience the Windows Installer doesn't react very well when it can't read the disk -- I don't usually get 'graceful' error messages

INDEED!

That was my first assumption anyways. He said he gets registry errors too though so it might be a memory issue.

btw Gerb, I'd wait until Operation Buccaneer is over before you go searching for "other" sources of Front Page..hehe

CD is clean, i checked that after it didn't install the first time....

and yeah, i went looking for warez right after i couldn't get it workinng the final time.... remind me never todo that again. Too many popups and some malevolent javascript.....

anyway, i'm using dreamweaver now, and i have that "for educational purposes" :)

yeah, i heard about the-CAD... that's rough....

Yeah! Front Page Sucks bad you should use Dreamweaver and Homesite. I swear Dreamweaver is the best tool for graphical design on webpages.

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:
oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
