Troubles with Locust

I would like to have a hero with camouflage abilities.

I had an idea for an ability based on bear form, with the alternate form a model of a shrub with little or no movement speed.

Then I came across a problem - the ability wouldnt be very effective because the enemy could just select you with their cursor , and the creeps would still attack you.

So I thought I could use the 'Locust ability' to solve that.

But then another problem arose - I wanted the owner of the unit and his/her allies to be able to select it aswell.

So I decided there might be a field to change that in the locust ability in the editor.

Yet another problem - I couldnt find the locust ability, so I had a look for the unit locust, checked that the ability is in the Unit category, and it was, so I went back to the ability editor, opened up all of the unit ability folders for all races and searched for it - it wasnt there.

Does anyone have an alternative or knows how to edit the ability?

Thanks for all help given.

Hi
If I need to find an unit, ability, or something else in the editor, I use the Find Function in the Edit Menu. So I go to abilities editor, click on a random ability, then go to edit, find, type in locust, and it shows me that the spell is in Standard Abilities/Undead/Hero/Locust Swarm.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for telling me about the Find function that will save me alot of time in the future, but Locust swarm wasnt the ablity I was looking for, I was looking for 'Locust' which makes a unit unable to be selected. Thanks for helping though.

I used the Find function but that couldnt find the ability either.. It's strange because I KNOW it's in there because the Locust units have it..

You could download WEU from www.wc3sear.ch it has an built-in system for that... transforms hero in a random tree... can only be selected by owner and allies... wont be attacked...

Grrr...

F.Y.I, in the standard W.E., it is impossible to edit the Locust ability. :banghead:

But even if you could, there's nothing relevant to change.

Just wondering...if you can't edit the ability, how do you know there is nothing to edit?

Because it does one thing. It makes whatever has the ability unselectable. How do you change that?

Like any other ability in Warcraft it should have different art options even if they dont do anything ;)

Because I've used something that allows it to be edited. ;)

actually...

Locust does a little more than make units unselectable; it also prevents you from ordering units to use standard spells/abilities. I guess since a unit with locust can't "select" its ability once it is ordered to so with a trigger, it won't cast anything.

Yeah, I didn't believe it at first either...

Edit: N/M! What was really going on was a "pick all units" and the picked units had locust...

Edit #2!: Okay... well, maybe not... I tried it without picking, and I guess my first thought was correct! Anyone have any idea why locust would do that?

This would have been better in a new thread...

"Pick every" only picks units that you can select.
Units with Locust can't be selected, so "Pick" doesn't find them.

That said, ordering a "locusted" unit with triggers works just fine.
You just need some way to get them without "Pick".

Locust is somewhat famous with dummy casters.
There you do have a reference to the unit since the trigger will create it first.

Rumor has it that "pick every unit of type" will get them.
That's unconfirmed however.

Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.

400 users all online all looking at latest content
  • The Helper The Helper:
I wonder how all these bots that sit on the lastest content page get passed anubis or maybe they did not but they are just registering on whos online
  • The Helper The Helper:
showing up on whos online not registration
  • Ghan Ghan:
The first gate is stopping all the bots that don't execute javascript.
  • Ghan Ghan:
That's the main thing with Anubis - no Javascript, no site. Typically you can still get the site to load without Javascript.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I remember the whole javascript thing, question - how many real people disable that?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hell I guess I could go back on the stats to know that - we probably capture that and we know the before and after
  • Ghan Ghan:
Real users can't really disable Javascript anymore these days.
  • Ghan Ghan:
The internet is broken without it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Bot readable, not human usable.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    got it

    Happy Thursday!
