True or False? (an item question)

Is it possible to have an item change a unit's attack?

for example: The default hero's attack is 1-3 dmg, he picks up an item (sword), and his attack become 1-8 dmg, and if he picks up an axe, 1-10dmg

And if this is possible, is it possible to have the item change the units attack type, as in from normal to piercing?

I believe it is so because I know a map that you click an item you change to that attack type and change damage, forgot which one o_o.
Probably not possible to just hold the item.

hmm, What if I use the chaos ability so that when the hero picks up the item they are changed into a differnt unit, would that be possible?

Yes but as far as I know, you cannot revert changes made with the Chaos ability.

i think its done by several "versions" of the hero an replacing it after picking up.

a unit can only have 2 attacks, that makes 2 different versions of attack types or dice roles. you can enable and disable attacks using any "orb" ability.

another possibility to change the attack type is the war club ability (mountain giant) but this needs a destructible. you could use a dummy destructible created for just this purpose at the position of the unit though to make the effect apply nearly instant.

having different versions of the hero works as well. the "chaos" ability is best to use to morph one unit into a different unit types. its benefits are that exp, items in the inventory, hp, mp, buffs, and everything else will still apply for the morphed unit. this is not possible by replacing the unit manually, at least not the buffs.
however there is one major drawback of the chaos ability (at least it was at the time i was actively working with the editor) if you morph one hero into an other one it works fine, but if you every morph it back to the first one it will start to bug. the base attribute bonuses will be applied twice. example:
your hero number 1 has 12 strength on lvl 1.
you morph him to hero number 2 with 17 strength at lvl 1.
the strength will still be 12 and not 17 because you used the chaos ability and it keeps stats.
you morph him back to hero number 1, he will still have 12 strength, but the hitpoint bonus of 12*50 will become 24*50 and his hp will grow larger and larger with every time you morph him again into this unit type.

bad for you, what to do?
another possibility would be to use the metamorphosis skill of the demon hunter and make the morphosis permanent. might work, might bug same way as chaos i dont know.

replacing the heroes however is a bad decision in my opinion, this will lead to an exploit in your map, changing the attack type by simply dropping an item will remove all buffs from your hero. buffs like cripple or poison. perfect pvp killer.

This was very helpful information. Is there anyway around that bug? Like what if you added a trigger after it that lowered the atributes back to normal, or are there other bugs invovled?

the attributes arent increased, only their effect is added but the last time i tested this was over a year in the past, might have been fixed since but on the other hand, probably its not.

and besides this little drawback chaos really is the best way to achieve this in my opinion. if you think about it, this ability is used in the orc campaign to morph the normal orc units (including the hero hellscream) into the chaos orc units. its designed to do exactly this job.

I did a test using chaos, and the stats didnt get messed up, so thats what im going to use if i can only figure out how to make a trigger to use chaos when a hero picks up or drops a particular item.

thanks for the help

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
