Nice going. How did you protect it to take all the triggers away? (I looked at these maps in the editor because it's a way faster way to look at things).

Trail of Blood

Nice. My only problem here is it's very simple...not enough complication in pathing and not enough creeps. I don't suppose this is done though, so it's no problem.

One Nation

Same as the above. Nice Bridges.

Ah, that program. I have it, but I've never used it :)

I should've said more about what I meant, sorry.

First, look at the vast amounts of dirt between the empires and the river spot.

Then, look at a standard AoS. You'll notice that they split up the paths more with cliffing and trees. Instead, the only good piece of complexity there is the center. I don't mean to be rude, your map is a perfect plug and play...being so small. Still, it could use a small amount of sprucing up...somehow.

As for the creeps, it should be obvious. No one's going to level up when the creeping spot is rather stretchy. Look at another AoS sometime and you'll see a whole bunch of little cracks in the dividing spots that twist and turn to reveal many creeping locations.

I don't want you making it look like EotA. That map is sickeningly complex that it takes forever to get where you want and by the time you get there you've lost the obelisk or whatever you were trying not to lose.

And I don't want it still looking like DotA. That map's too simple.

One Nation

Still, you need to have something interesting to do while you trek to another kingdom. At least 80% of the map is filled with randomly-placed trees!

Trail of Blood

...Whoa. A big change here.

Awesome, but now you just need to place reviving creeps everywhere. Spirit Pigs randomly going around and attacking people? Come on! You need more variety than that.

As for your little doodads, this is the big no-no. You have way too many volumetric and so you'll overlag practically everything. I notice a DRAMATIC slow down when I scroll over to it. Remove all that dust from the top middle of the map. As for the bottom middle, please have an occasional fire burst, not everywhere. It's too flashy, and it's also too laggy.

Oh, and did you have that waterfall before? If so, I didn't notice it. Anyway, it's also too graphic. While not particularly laggy here (most of the graphic is 2d) it just looks weird. Make the waterfall shorter or make less of them. Here it looks like you randomly placed them and just changed some of their rotation. Half of the waterfalls aren't needed.

Wow! Could you be any more harsh! I mean i just complimented your map the best i could, and you come back and shot me down with negitives about my map. But then again i did say you could say that. Thank-you again for the comments and i will try to fix them...

Several things :D

1) I'm trying to be frank. I don't think it could be harsh. It's not like I called you an idiot and demanded that you stop making maps. It's not like I called you a kid or that your map was scribble. Nope...that's what they do in war3sear.ch skinning section. I said you needed to brush up on your knowledge of volumetrics. Don't worry, most warcrafteers are too stupid to use volumetrics. And those that do rarely know how to use them, and so may need mention from those who have practiced or those who have initial learning and training in modeling and the like.

2) I thought I posted this before you complimented my map, so I wasn't harsh on your map AFTER you complimented mine, though it doesn't really matter.

3) My Trial of Blood review wasn't sarcastic in saying awesome. I thought it was great with the little cliffs and trees here and there. I just didn't care for your earlier reply as to why there are a small amount of creeps :D

4) One Nation is the map that needs work. The castles are ok, but they're friggin cramped. A lot more space needed there. The Invaders come through this sore thumb in the wilderness. The idea is to gradually make the area as it comes closer to the Invaders arrival point more poisonous. Aka, make clumps of rocky dirt as you spiral closer to the Invader's ruined temple warp. As you get even closer, change to blight and make a few dead trees. This map sort of reminds me of Legendary Heroes, only 1000 times better (and only 1000 times better, it could be moreso better...as all maps can) with tree placings and some cliff. You need still more cliff pop outs here and you should somewhat roughen the terrain. It looks like God wanted to try his hand at landscaping to make everything flat and perfect.

gotta give you credit. You made me laugh. Not many can.

I have lessin up on the doodads and the waterfalls, ive put some random fire traps here and there. ALSO! your random reviving creep idea was already there. You just gotta wait about 2 min before they revive.

Heres an idea for you, though its off topic, try playing the map.... it will give you a little more insite of what it realy is. You can't tell from WWE because i have hid all the triggers.

Also with the One Nation map i just started that this morning so i know its all shity and stuff, but i havent spent that much time on it. With the castle expanding idea i agree, but it would be hard because i'm trying to make it balanced as possible so the small castles were what i thought as the way to go.

Haha, well that's good :P

That's great! Hopefully you'll make it intuition soon enough that polygons are easier to spend than volumetrics. I think my burning building in LoaP is the biggest amount of volumetrics you can make in one area without incredibly reducing the speed.

I didn't know if they revived or not. I'm lazy and so I view in the editor...and you deleted all of the regions and triggers in your smart protection. I didn't say however that you didn't have reviving. I left that as a maybe.

See the above. I'm lazy, but I don't have enough time either to wait for my computer to close/minimize and reopen the Warcraft playing console. It's not like the editor, which is insanely easy to minimize. Wait until you see a map library like mine. It becomes very hard to find the map you want.

Well do whatever you want. It doesn't matter. One Nation and Trial of Blood ARE your maps.

That is true and please feal free to comment on my maps untill they are fully and completely bug/glich/to lagy/whatever free.

And dont worry i will comment alot more on your map in the future.

Will anyone else test or review my map!?!?!?!?!????!?!?!!!!

New version of Trial of Blood and One Nation is Below

*Note that i havent done that much to terrain, but i have only changeed and organized the triggers to work better for the players with slower computers and for better game play.

Trial of Blood

That's friggin BEAUTIFUL!

There's only ONE problem I can see, and that is you didn't remove enough from my talk about the flame traps. I like their effect on the main ground, but please, look at the bottom middle of the map where you put those archways, the maze, and the heroes. Too much volumetric there, which should be changed.

The flames seem to come up at a different time now so it doesn't steal too much speed. Still, you have way too many large flames here. Cut back, and you'll have a nice small dungeon.

And there aren't enough enemies in the southern line.

Like I said, otherwise, this has a beautiful wilderness appeal. It's going to be hard to fight an AoS in, but it's a nice flavor of difficulty I haven't seen in anything else, where the paths are straight forward.

One Nation

I don't see much of a difference here, but you did say you worked more on the triggers.

If you want, I can terrain the castles (the cool effect I can see here, and I forgot to mention this for version one, is that "lumpy" look. I forgot what it's called, but basically the murder holes with the pop up and pop down levels to look like a real castle) and add enemies along the ground for you and send the data. You can either copy it or try to import the triggers and regions and such.

But it makes it easier for me to rate it :(

if I had a dollar for everytime Rinpun used the word "volumetrics" hehe

are you sure that's the correct word? I probably said this in a post before, but I thought volumetrics was about the analysis or measurement of volumes, as opposed to the rendering of volumes. So shouldn't it be called volume rendering? Ryoko you're an expert, got any thoughts?

Also Rinpun, what sort of system specs do you have? If your gfx card is more than a couple years old then its definitely gonna have problems rendering the more complex stuff.

Playing these maps now....

ToB: no major feedback here, just small things. Like if you have shops that sell things for example, shouldn't they look like shops? Also, you should order the items for sale by cost, cheapest items go at the start, more expensive ones at the end.

I guess the next phase for you would be developing custom abilities, if you want to do it. It's a lot of work for sure, but it does in turn make the map more special.

Remember to apply the AI - ignore unit guard position to every unit that's created, I noticed units will eventually return to base once they get to the other end. Not a biggie though, since with a full house no one would likely ever see this happen.

Watch spelling mistakes. I kept getting a message saying something like "Your got has xxx gold", and I wasn't sure what it meant.

You also may have to address memory leaks at some point in time, I noticed a bit of an "unloading time" at the end after I exited the map.

I'm guessing you removed all traces of fire and smoke and such, the map could not possibly have played any smoother. I know that Rinpun is telling you to go for performance over all else, but I don't agree. You have removed all the graphical elegance from the map, it currently has the look and feel of a classic blizzard-style map that was made in 2002. By 2005 standards, you can afford more complexity because computer systems are much better now.

Nice use of the multiboard, tracking the status of heroes is quite a cool thing to have.

One Nation: Very interesting concept, but I couldn't figure out what to do. The game started and I couldn't control any units!

Guys just a heads up I am going to be shutting the site down soon. I am just waiting on the NUON people to decide whether they want to transfer forum data and keep the discord. My email is [email protected] for anyone that wants to keep in touch and I have a facebook too. I will make an official post later. Love you guys and will miss everyone!

  • The Helper The Helper:
Someone email AtariAge and see if they want me to transfer the forum data over to it
  • Ghan Ghan:
Could probably keep NUON stuff around here if we wanted.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Hmm what to do about the World Editor site though?
  • Stephen Stephen:
I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun
  • The Helper The Helper:
There will be a github of the forum data so the NUON Forum Data I guess would be available there
  • The Helper The Helper:
World Editor is technically Ryoko stuff not mine you guys can keep that I am not in that even
  • jonas jonas:
:( end of an era :(
  • The Helper The Helper:
Dont think of it as an end jonas - think of it as a beginning, because really my friend that is what it is.
  • A Andyoyo:
Thank you for the hard work over the years. It did not go unnoticed.
