Unit Icon trouble.

Okay..

Is there a way to move the unit/ability icon where you want it?

For example, sometimes when you give a hero four spells, there is just a blank space in the first one, and one of the spells appears in the next row.

This also happens when you give a unit an ability too, because sometimes it will appear off to the side.

The last example is where a building trains custom units, and the unit icons are just sprawled all over the blank spaces.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Oh yeah, I'm using Reign of Chaos Editor. =)

and thank you for saying this, because the answer to this question completely depends on which editor u are using :)

first off, let me say that in RoC you cant change the slot positions for the stuff you see in buildings while still keeping the map as a multiplayer map. Slot positions can only be changed for hero abilities.

You have to open up war3.mpq using winmpq (see faq), and hunt around for .txt files that have the name *abilityfunc.txt, where * is human, orc, undead or night elf. These files are pretty easy to read, inside them you will find all the spells listed with various bits of info about them. One bit of info refers to the slot position. An example position value might be (0,3). This is an x,y co-ordinate, and here refers to the bottom left square. X values go from 0-3 and Y goes from 0-2.

so just open up whatever file contains your spell (you should know what race uses the spell already), and just do a search for your spell and you will find it easy.

to get your changes to these txt files to work, you have to use winmpq to open up your map and then import the txt files into the map. import the files into the "Units\" directory.

oh yeah, one last thing, any slot position changes you make will not work unless you use the default loading screen.

Actually, the newest ROC patch(1.10-1.12) fixes that problem. It automatically places abilities in the right places when picked, so you don't have to do that dumb winMPQ stuff anymore. :D It's alot easier for me-

[verybigvoice] HEY! [/verybigvoice]

WinMPQ stuff was the heart and soul of map editing before TfT. Don't call it stupid. You might *sniff* hurt some feelings.

Blademaster: are you saying that there are fields in the RoC editor now where you can specify the x-y co-ordinates for button positions?

"automatically places abilities in the right places when picked" doesn't quite make sense to me.

No, you cant edit the places of the abilities in the editor. What I mean is: in a game you are playing, when you pick an ability on a level up and another ability is taking that spot, the game will automatically move the icon for that ability to another spot. So you can have an ultimate ability in the first spot if another ability is already taking the fourth spot.
And WinMPQ is not dumb, but I mean it is a pain to do all the extra ability editing when the game can do it for you.

Uhh, could you explain a little more, Blademaster? I couldn't quite fix my problem with your solution. Does that only apply to abilites? If so that would explain alot.

Anyway, the MPQ way worked perfectly. Thanks again =)

Hey Ghan, whatever cron job its part of its not running its been the same for days. If it does not work can we remove it?
  • The Helper The Helper:
    LOL! A tweak job!

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.

  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
