upgrade help

I am currentley considering about getting into computer gaming, but i have one major regard first. I was wondering how often I would have to upgrade my sound card, graphix card, and even proccessor, So i can get optimal performance when i am playing my games.

With current product cycles, to stay at the top of the line, the graphics card and processor would need upgrades every six months and the sound card about every 18 months. If you could deal with less than the absolute best in performance and depending on the types of games you're in to, then you may be able to stretch those times to 18 months for video and CPU and 30-36 months for sound.

CPU and Graphics card are the most important. You have to remember though that every time you put in a new CPU, you'll most likely have to upgrade your motherboard. Most motherboards from the past do not support new-age CPUs. I can usually go through about 2 years before i have to do anything with a new CPU, sometimes longer.

Remember that RAM is also a factor in this. You will probably have to upgrade your RAM just as often as your CPU and Graphics Card.

Speeds of chips usually double every two years, just to give you an estimate about how fast things increase in terms of speed.

Well you don't really have to be up-to-date when it comes to computers. Most of us gamers play older games that what is being released today. Game companies don't try to release games that won't play on any computers, otherwise they wouldn't sell any games.

I have been playing half-life (made 1997) for the past 2 years, and i don't feel like it has been out of date.

It's all going to be decided on how much you like eye candy, and what type of gameplay you enjoy more.
