Upgrading To A PIII?

I have a PII 350 Mhz machine, and I'm thinking about possibly upgrading my processor. I figure I'd have to install a new motherboard with it, if I want to go to a PIII, correct? Can anyone give me an idea of whether or not I could go from a PII to a PIII by replacing the motherboard and processor?

My friend just upgraded from a PIII 500 to a PIII 800, but he had to replace his motherboard since the new processor didn't want to work with his current one.

I'm confused on whether or not I can do this also.

u have to change the whole thing 4 reasons of compatablity and performance u wont acheive good performance with a old mobo and a newer processor.
as for the compatiblity part im no that sure as both P!! and P!!! are using slot 1 and running at fsb of 100......
(there is a choice of 100 and 133)maybe u could read the mobo manual or something

but in my opinion....get a t-bird or XP
u probably need a little ini weenie bit more $$$ but its worth the performance
i dunno wat's the price like in ur country but XP is selling like hotcakes and prices are down to less than $50 US for a XP1600 and the mother board wouldn't cost much a KG7 for a little more than $100 and maybe a stick of 256 DDR for bout $50 but recently the price of DDr has gone up and i didn't keep track of it
and probably get a new hdd at ATA100 and 7200rpm and it would be the dream pc for processing and gaming if u have some good SVGA card and a audigy local product(proud of it)lolzzzz

Yes you need a new motherboard

Your old motherboard will not support the cpu speeds of the PIII, and may not even recognize the PIII cpu.

Yes you can upgrade your computer to a PIII by just installing an new motherboard and CPU, you may have to install new memory chips too depending on what the motherboard can use and what your old motherboard could use, but memory is cheap

Guys just a heads up I am going to be shutting the site down soon. I am just waiting on the NUON people to decide whether they want to transfer forum data and keep the discord. My email is [email protected] for anyone that wants to keep in touch and I have a facebook too. I will make an official post later. Love you guys and will miss everyone!

Someone email AtariAge and see if they want me to transfer the forum data over to it
  • Ghan Ghan:
Could probably keep NUON stuff around here if we wanted.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Hmm what to do about the World Editor site though?
  • Stephen Stephen:
I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun
  • The Helper The Helper:
There will be a github of the forum data so the NUON Forum Data I guess would be available there
  • The Helper The Helper:
World Editor is technically Ryoko stuff not mine you guys can keep that I am not in that even
  • jonas jonas:
:( end of an era :(
  • The Helper The Helper:
Dont think of it as an end jonas - think of it as a beginning, because really my friend that is what it is.
  • A Andyoyo:
Thank you for the hard work over the years. It did not go unnoticed.
