it's still leaving 2 tons of junk at a national heritage site - imagine how much pollution/trash 2 tons left behind is - that's the equivalent of how many tourists?
How much do ships weigh? And aren't shipwrecks good for coral growth n shit? You really can't compare solid encased bombshells with tourist trash.

actually now that they plan to remove the bombs, im not as upset

but ships don't just go there for the heck of it - it's a restricted area, really only research ships go there - the planes on the other hand were there on a whim - they can practice dropping bombs pretty much anywhere (it is the U.S. after all), but yet they managed to drop them in the reef

As long as they are unexploded I dont care :)

it's still bad, they will rust and then release whatever chemicals they had into the reef

Yeah, damn chemicals. Have you seen how much oxidane is dumped into the oceans these days?

I think we should clean up those giant trash islands, and not cause any more damage to the ocean as we have. The Ocean is a home for Sea creatures, not man to lay dump to.

Yeah, I say pick up all the trash from the ocean and dump it on france.

You are not seriously comparing a ~20kg shell found on land with a 500 pound bomb somewhere unspecified miles out in the sea...
I don't fucking compare anything. Can you ever imagine a "Entire Bridge" been stolen? No? Then think again! Seriously, someone who really want it "they would take it!"

Actually... They're on the Great Barrier Reef. It would be easy to steal.. if you could get away with it...... Although that's an entirely different point.
My point being: It has a location, so your argument proves nothing, but you didn't read the damn post. You could get the miles (roughly) by searching up the Great Barrior Reef and the nearest land. (There's also something at the bottom of the map called a scale.) Also: I would prefer a bomb on land, than under the ocean. 500KG's worth of chemicals vs 50KG bombs (in groups of about 3-5)worth of gases... I think I'm gonna go for the latter...

That's all well and good, but what's your alternative? Accname made a suggestions that I wouldn't have an issue with, but I don't live in or around France. What would you do to fix the problem? 'Cuz they've been kinda trying for a while now.

Shoot it to Jupiter.
But that's sad, whittling away our planet's mass like that.

I say we create technology to beam energy into trash and turn it all into atoms. Then use those atoms and put them together to form the materials we need.

Synthesis ftw.

We're a far way off from rearranging materials at an atomic level into usable materials at a realistic rate, so I'd say Jupiter is probably the better bet. No one lives there... no one should complain. But then again, how much does a big ass rocket cost that's capable of transporting the amount of trash we create into space? Sounds like a no go.

Nobody I know lives in france, and nobody I know will complain either. its much closer to us too.

Go through all the trash and sort it! Then, we can re-use the metals, turn the food items into biofuel/compost... Plastics can be re-used and... that's all sorted in about 10-20 years.

No way, that'd take an absurd amount of manpower to not only keep up with the current rate of waste growth but to actually recycle beyond that rate. If we had some technology that allowed you to throw your electronics into a bin and it'd separate them into their different components, then maybe, but that task alone is far too burdensome for it to be reasonable.

So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
