I did the first one, but i havn't had a chance to do the others. my parents were already looking into plans from other ISP's to find the best one, but if this goes through then maybe we won't have too.

I assume the CRTC is a federal organisation.
And a federal organisation has to justify itself.

How do they justify their decision?

Because they're not making it mandatory for internet to be metered. Rather, they're giving more power to the big ISPs. Big ISPs license out their networks to smaller independent ISPs. Once and if this goes into effect, the bigger ISPs will be able to tell the independents that they have to raise their prices and introduce metered plans.

then I don't really see the harm in giving out your postal code so that you can find your local politician/representative.. perhaps you can enlighten us how else you would like to find it? maybe you just wanted a big list with all the postal codes/correspoinding government officials so you can find it out yourself?

and again, sending a letter to the government - who will read the letter/recieve information from it? the postal workers, and the government - which by the way, already has your address/information.. there is a limit to being paranoid you know

and you can always just contact news/etc. with an anonymous e-mail/name... it's not like you have to do everything on their list (they said that just 10% would be more then enough on average..)

This is actually a very interesting article, because that's the situation a number of countries are currently facing.

IMHO I do not think this will pass in Canada. Even the Prime Minister seems to be quite reticent with the idea. In numerous countries around the glove though, this is what's currently happening. It's so easy to monitor Internet transit that ISP companies act like dictators in their domain. Gives them power, and they like that power it seems, at least as long as it brings them money.

Well, that's one thing Americans don't have to worry about. Socialistic behavior sometimes leads to awful systems such as this one. But we'll get over it. I guess.

Hmmm, that makes more sense.

But I still don't quite understand how this leads to a metered internet then. Or at least why it increases the total prices.
I mean the ISPs still try to be as cheap as possible so they can get customers from other ISPs. And the total costs for the ISPs still are the same.
