This topic will tell you about tips to help you in making maps and using this forum to your advantage.

Helpful files and hints involving map editing:
Look near the bottom for the files you want
  • Type in 8739 in the time for the technology you want for instant upgrades.
For more on this, visit this thread.
  • If you get a problem with one trigger, try spreading it into two triggers.
  • Use a modified editor such as Stardraft and SCXE; if you need help installing/using them, you can ask me or other people.
  • Also try getting GUEdit, it has many options that are very useful like protecting a map and setting "Custom Player Colors" on a player. These are the unique colors you see on the units in some maps.
If for some reason the link for GUEdit is down (it almost always is, if so, try downloading off HELLSS' site) If none of these links work, download off my site. (mirror)
  • If you want to stack something, such as minerals, use SCM Tool Kit. For tutorials on using it, click here.
  • Look in older topics to see if you can get your question answered before posting a new topic.
  • Private message one of the moderators, or just post on the forum if you need further help on your problem.

    Modified Editors
  • SCXE - (mirror1) (mirror2)
  • Stardraft - (mirror1)

    All-in-one Editor
  • Another modified editor that lets you both stack and create square terrain at the same time, StarForge. It is a little buggy however as it is in its early stages and some of the normal features found in other editors are disabled, such as the player properties and upgrade settings. To set this program up you must extract the entire directory with Use folder names enabled and run the exe. Thanks to DevliN[V] for giving a pointer on this excellent editor.
  • StarForge - (mirror1) (mirror2)

[edit]Added a StarForge link, thanks again to DevliN[V].

Stardraft

Stardraft wont seem to work for me. I always get a cannot open file error or a storm.dll file isnt compatible error. Ive tried downloading it (stardraft) twice, and ive tried using it with starcraft 1.05,1.07, and 1.10. None of them work. Any ideas what im doing wrong?

Have you tried copying storm.dll from the Starcraft folder to the folder Stardraft is installed in?

You may want to include a link to StarForge if you can. It's the best terrain editor out there right now (yes, even better than GUEdit, and 100x faster).

Added info on the editor and two links, and yes I agree, this editor is very useful and easy to use.

Wrong and right

Illendil or how ever you spell it, I use SCXE for a lot of things, but on some cases it really screws up the map, or makes it harder to use, first of all, 2.6 has a thing where you can''t see the whole trigger box, and stacking minerals is easyer than jus' using SCM tool kit, scmdraft is a lot better, laymode>overlay> SCM alpha is better than beta, and I have nothing else, I know a lot a bout' map making so ask me some time and I'll ask you...

SCM Draft is a very good editor, but it has some glitches in it still. I would much rather trust SCXE though, but SCM Draft is good to use for all those other tricks SCXE cant do yet. I have found no problems with SCXE yet =/.

Errror with Stardraft when I try to run it on WinXP....

Component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of it's dependecies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

I dled it from the second mirror up top...

So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
