Very natural Coolant

Ok, I got this idea when my chem teacher was lecturing us on how water is NOT conductive, in the distilled state, any impurities and it becomes conductive. As for if anyone else suggested this Idea, i'd call them a (censured) idiot, but I'm going to try a test run on a Packard bell 486.

Here's the idea in a step by step process:
1)Acquire 40 galons of distilled water.
2)Acquire COMPLETELY clean fishtank
3)Cut out holes in fishtank for cords.
4)COMPLETELY clean the 486 so that it carries no dust into the tank.
5)Remove fan from 486.
6)run cords through holes, airseal cord connections
7)Connect 486 to cords.
8)Power on 486
9)Fill fishtank with distilled water.
10)Airseal fishtank.
11)Pray

Any suggestions?

make sure you have a breaker or ground fault protected power strip...

Was going to post a URL to another liquid cooling project but I can't find it and don't want to give anyone the idea and have the liquid turn out to be something totally off. Could be the cause of a few killed PCs that way.

will not work--the instant you introduced metal into distill water , the water will pull metal ions into itself thus making a conductive solution. PS--there is hardly no way to get 100% distilled water anyway, since once exposed to air gases will dissolve into the solution.

Second, I was given a demonstration in Chem in open air, so it's not like there will be enough impurities, as for me, i'm going to go look for a 486

I believe I saw something of the like posted on the net. I can't find the Url either..but this fellow used mineral oil and a Styrofoam cooler, and then hooked up an air conditioning unit as his method of keeping the temperature down, and then proceeded to place all his computer boards into the mineral oil filled cooler.

Talk about risk taking.

Use vegetable oil instead. It's probably cheaper than some distilled water by now. And it is non-conductive. There was something on /. a little while back about some people that did this in Spain for a computer that was running on the roof of a building in order to keep it from overheating or getting wet. Do not put anything with moving parts into it (no fans, P/S, HD, etc), but every circuit board can be put in there and put the oil in before you power up.
