video card problem

i have a Nividia GeForce 4 MX420 and the lastest detenator 3 driver installed

sometime my monitor will shut off automatically and some time i am be able to get it back on again by smashing my key board or move the mouse crazyly around or click my finger off the mouse keys, but some times it won't turn back on and I am forced restart it

i haven't had this problem when i use detenator 4 driver so i guess your suggestion would be get the detenator 4 driver then

but if anyone know the website for the nividia complete driver removal please tell me, because if you just remove it use add/remove from control panel then there will be some left over registries, that's why i need that nividia driver removal tool, i saw someone post the website on this forum but i forgot where is it

But to me it sounds like your problems are related to power management/"standby"/hibernation settings

um... let me check that

and the setting is (i'm running win98 SE):

power schemes: always on
system standby: never
turn off monitor: never
turn off hard disks: never

and under the hibernate tap, the enable hibernate support is unchecked

also, this often happens when i'm playing games or typing out documents, so... what do you think of this one rapmaster?

1st edit: and my mouse setting just being mysteriously changed to left hand... now i'm suspecting some one has hacked into my computer...

Well if you suspect that, use the TDS program to detect+remove most trojans: http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/

Reversing the left+right mouse buttons is a common "feature" of many trojans (to play tricks on you.) If your CD ROM starts ejecting on its own that's another one.

Mouse button reversal may also be one of the fun tricks that people who live with you/visit cause. You should be able to change it back under the mouse setting in control panel. One of the most annoying errors I had to fix was a friend's web-browser wasn't displaying background colors in IE. I finally found out that someone set up High Contrast under Accessibility, which made all the pages default to white for background colors. What a fun one that was to track down. You might also wanna check the BIOS settings for power management. Although Windows should just yoink that info from the CMOS, I do not question the ways of Microsoft.

Occasionally my CD-rom drive opens and closes after/during boot up, but restarting always solves it, but I doubt a virus as it's done it over several re-formats.
