vJass Tutorial Videos (Good idea?)

I have searched for vJass tutorial videos and saw that there are no good videos to learn a vJass.

I believe it would be nice to have tutorial videos on vJass.

When learning a language, videos are always useful and for me, they help me to learn faster than if I was reading text.

Would doing tutorial videos on vJass be a good idea?

What would there be to take a video of? What a sample of Jass does?

I do not see the point.

Uhh..
I tried learning JASS (Not vJASS) from a video long ago.
Failed horribly =(

I think walls of texts are better xD

I do not see the point.

E.g.

Video 1: Downloading and installing Jass NewGen Pack
Video 2: Scope and libraries
Video 3: Globals
Video 4: Structs

etc... They could also talk of jass.

EDIT: What is taught in a Jass tutorial transformed into a video with Sound explanations and live writing.
I believe it would be nice.

You can't learn Jass with one video. There would be more than one video for sure. Anyways, videos might not be your style of learning but might be someone else's style. :)

"Hi. I am Sickle and I am here to talk about scopes. Be sure to listen carefully and take notes because you are not able to copy and paste or quick reference a certain part of a video. Also, since the quality is not good enough, I will be forced to dictate Jass samples to you while you type them out."

Wait... No?

Why would the quality be bad?

You might be using some shitty recorder, but I wouldn't if I was doing a video.

haha, I thought someone used a way to get around the "Sopy-Pasting" problem?
Showing the triggers in pictures

But now that you mention it, it might just be someone else's style of learning..
hmm..

Isn't it faster to learn with videos?

Pasting the code I did in the video wouldn't be a problem, and even posting a map of what been done.

Thats really not the point, imo.

You should rather be thinking about what audience you wanna have. How many people are trying to learn vJass, 10 a month? with that number decreasing over time while Warcraft III is getting older, you're lucky to get a 1000 views total.
The idea is nice, I'm doing it myself too however not many people are gonna benefit from the video. Keep in mind that not everybody expects a "youtorial" for vJass and read walls of text instead.

@LearningCode
You tried, and failed. What an excuse. Do you give up every time you fail to do something?

Yea I remember now, that you did videos.

It's a good idea, and if there had been videos when I was learning jass, I would have enjoyed it!

I succeeded with walls of texts xD
Okay, not sure if 'succeeded' is the right word..

At least I can use JASS now =x

Videos about JASS would be good, if they were made well enough as to not confuse the person learning.

I'll be dead honest, I like the idea of a video tutorial. I hate reading walls of text, and if u actually watch the person do the jass and everything it makes it a lot more learnable in my opinion. Sure a lot of people prefer reading text, but videos can teach a lot more than one would think. You get to see JASS from someone else's point of view, which I think is awesome. Of course this video would have to be pretty well-made.

I personally always thought that video tutorials were for graphic related topics.

For learning vJass, a well written tutorial will almost certainly be better than a video.

this

A video would be inferior to a well written tutorial; the video only has the advantage of a graphical component, and vJASS has no graphical related components (maybe setting up NewGen or something?).

Wait-
Vids COULD prove useful.

For those Math heavy parts xD
The circles, spirals, stars, compounded circles, and all the scary math thing.

I would like to see a video tut of that xD

The vid could show which parts of the code do what and how it makes stuff move in that pattern
Displaying formulas graphically, I duno, just my opinion =x

Nothing you can do in Jass is math heavy IMO :)

or you paste the code from a written tutorial and learn from it though testing, theres no need for video

@Vestras
Not THAT kind of math heavy =/
It's just that I find Simple stuff Math heavy.
Till today, I haven't figured out how to make circles within circles. xD

You can do as much math related stuff in JASS as you can do with most other programming languages.

I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.

It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
