W3 port problem, need advice

I get disconnected in almost every regular games, yet I can join and play custom games most of the time.

I'm not sure how to check if the ports mentioned on blizzard tech support are open or not, and since I'm using cable moden with store-bought wireless equipments (for networking), I'm not too sure just which tech support to call. The ISP does not offer any help regarding routers, that much I know. Both do offer extended time on hold and disconnection when transferring the call, though:(

Could someone tell me if this is a router related problem, or something else? I'm using PIII 700ish mhz(hehe), GeForceII video card, some build-in-piece-of-junk sound card, and cable moden with linksys wireless adapter.

Thanks.

Does your router have any instructions ? Blocked ports would be the cause of your problems. Are you playing at the same time than somebody else on the same connection ? Sorry, I cannot help you further for I have never operated a router.

Also consider you can set the port Warcraft III uses via the options/gameplay menu.

I was just checking the online tech support linksys has, no luck, it directs me to contact ISP, which would just redirects me back to linksys.

No one else in the household plays w3 at the same time, just leaving the other comp online with no applications running.

I'm not too sure how to use the option/gameplay manu to adjust ports, since I don't even know which port is which.

But if this is a router problem, I guess I'll just have to contact both ISP and linksys.

Any help is big help, thanks for answering.

Go to http://192.168.1.1, and you will be prompted for a username and password. Leave the Username blank, and type in admin for the password. Once the setup page loads, select the Advanced tab. After the Advanced section finishes loading, click on the Forwarding tab and make the following modifications: [using an IP Address of 192.168.1.3 or which ever IP address you where assigned]

Service Port Range Protocol IP Address
4000 ~ 4000 Both 192.168.1.3
6112 ~ 6119 Both 192.168.1.3

Ok...

I called linksys tech support later that evening and she basically walked me through the exact thing you've suggested. Except the last digit of the IP address is 5, instead of 3.

Would that make any significant difference?

I still get disconnections, although not at the first moment of the game. It's annoying nonetheless.

Is there anything else I can do to ensure stability of the cable connection? I know comcast's got a bad reputation when it comes to local cable modem, but it's that or back to AOL......

Not an option to my liking, I'd say.

Thanks for the help!

The ip was a common one linksys uses, but it can be several others, as you notice in my earlier post--->( or the one you was assigned.)

I have comcast and it gives no problems, but it also depends on the area you live in.
I suggest going here and use this to test and tweak your connection.

http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

It works for cable too.

Ps Go to connections and disable the idle disconnect feature.

Thank you.

I'll try to figure that one out, also tried the link but it seemed to be busy or something...just gonna give that another try later.

It looks like Bnet has some kind of problem too, as there are other people who also experience random disconnects, excluding the dischack, heh.

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
