Single Player "fix" from Blizzard CD Protection

I got a reply from Blizzard's CD Protection email this afternoon with a "fix"for Single Player. Basically, it looks like they're releasing their own no-CD hack for the game... sounds like a chancy strategy to me, but I'd imagine they're doing this as a stopgap solution while waiting for a more permanent fix - maybe a firmware update from Samsung??

I'll test it as soon as I get home and edit-in if it works or not.

They also said in the email that they're working on a bnet solution - maybe they'll have to do a patch that recognizes the original War3.exe *and* the Blizzard-hacked .exe?

They asked for feedback, so after I test it I'll reply and ask when we can expect something similar for LoD.

I heard from another user on the Dell board that Samsung replied to his email that they had no intention of fixing this, and didn't think it was their problem. Nice.

same problem

i have the same problem with wc3 and lod, it loads the 'autorun' screen (where you can select to play the game, options, and run previews etc) but when i hit 'play game' it says 'please verify that the disc...', but if i eject the disc and pop it backin, it seems to work. This isn't a permanent fix, but im interested in finding a cure for this too

I'm new here..looking for the answer to the LoD problem I have been having. I am a bit surprised to see so many others having the same problem. When trying to install LoD, I keep getting a "please insert Expansion disk into the drive" when it is already there (and always on the file D2EXP.MPQ) ...I have tried everything I can think of to fix this problem. I have updated all my drivers, including BIOS. I have updated DirectX. I have tried installing LoD from a friends copy, only to have it do the same thing in the same place. I have tried copying the file from the disk to the D2 file manually. Nothing works. Blizzards answer to this is maybe I have a bad disk...but I have tried more than one disk, and both mess up in the same spot. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it greatly.

I had that same problem long ago installing LOD!!

Even when I got it to install of a network drive, it would crash at the 3 barbarians in the last act.

I bought a new CD-Rom drive and the problems went away. After days of failed attempt. Whats weird is, it would copy things over okay, so I really thought the drive was fine.

I had small odd install problems on many games as well.

You can pick up a new cdrom drive for like 30 bucks nowadays. But I can't guaruntee that will fix your individual problem.
