Warcraft 3 causes complete Internet Connection Kill

Hello, everytime I start Warcraft III my internet connection is shut down completely. I can just reopen a connection to the internet after restarting. So playing over Battle.net is impossible. One time I got till the "account menu" and installed an account but one moment later again the connection was DEAD.
My sysem:

Athlon XP 1600+
geforce 2 GT
256 DDR
Terratec DMX Fire 1024
Windows 98 SE

I connect to internet via my router (ADSL). Ports 6112 & 4000 are forwarded.
I already reinstalled WC3 and patched it manually. Still the same problem.

Now I don't know how to continue...any ideas ? Would be great!

maybe this gives an idea: when I restart to get my Internet
connection working again also my sound hangs up (the windows
shutdown wav).
but I already got the latest drivers for my sound card...
 
uhh. . .i dont have war 3 cuz it cost a little too much for me. . .but from wat i can see, i think the problem lies within your connection. . .if you can play other games like Brood War or Diablo (bnet games) with that connection then i am wrong. But i think you should do somthin about that connection you got. . .
 
That sounds a LOT like a resource conflict with your sound and network cards.
What you need to do is open up your case and swap cards around until you find a layout that works. If at all possible, put the sound card in the topmost slot (leaving a one slot gap between sound and video) and the network card 1-2 slots away. Everything else should be able to go where ever.
Another thing you could try is to disable any 3d hardware accelerated sound in the options menu. You may have to go through regedit and modify this manually if you can't keep the game open long enough.
 
well...I don't know wheter other bnet games are working cuz i just have wc3 ;(
but it has not neccesarily to do with the bnet. also if I just go into single player mode and the switch to windows with ALT+TAB I can see that my internet connection is DEAD...
 
i c. . .listen to Swilo, i dont know that much about the insides of a computer, i only have a laptop and i got it upgraded once for RAM.
 
If it does it from simply loading the game, it IS a resource conflict between the network card and the sound card.
Go inside your comp and rearrange them. Or have someone else do it for you if you don't know how/don't trust yourself.
 
I tried to fix it by switching off 3 d sound and so on. but even with no sound it has this problem.

so thx for the tipps! I will try to rearrange them tommorrow! therefore I need do deeinstall my drivers for the two components ( and delete them from the control panel -> system hardware profile) before I rearrange them. Am I right ?
I will report what happened...
 
No, you needn't uninstall them. Just shutdown the computer, swap them, and restart.
Windows should auto-detect the cards again and set up the drivers to work again.
Uninstalling the drivers will only make this take longer.
 
k now before I open my case I have some questions left :)
call me a fool but i forgot that I have a LAN Onboard Card
Motherboard: ECS Elitegroup K7S5A
It has also Sound onboard, but I have this one disabeld and the Xfire1024 installed as said before.
So I have just the possibility to rearrange my Xfire Soundcard.
So I will put it on the topmost slot as you said and leave one slot free to my video card.

And another point:
Isn't normally a ressource conflict shown in the Windows Control panel?
 
Yeah, they can be if windows sees it as a problem.
Now that you mention you have onboard LAN and sound, it might be a driver conflict instead of a hardware resource conflict.
I'd still try moving the sound card to a different slot.
If that doesn't work, try taking the sound card out and running on the built-in sound chip.

Ok...first I disabeld a MIDI sound chip or something like that in BIOS. That opened another IRQ. The soundcard, the network card and my TV card were sharing the same IRQ. then I reearanged my PC like you said to me and put the Sound card in another slot. I booted up and the soundcard had a different IRQ. well...started Warcraft 3.....and WOW ! :) everything works. Finally I can play Battle.net ! thank u all, THANK U SWILO :D

    this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
