Earlier in 2017, Blizzard Entertainment released a new patch for the original Starcraft, improving compatibility with newer operating systems and making the game completely free. Today, the studio has a new patch for another classic. Warcraft III will eventually be updated with Patch 1.29, which is currently available for testing on the Public Test Realms.
The patch is planned to add widescreen support to Warcraft III. There's also changes coming to multiplayer, increasing game lobbies to 24 players and expanding the available team colors. The World Editor is getting another pass, with size limits for objects, map size, tile sets, resources, and more being increased. Finally, Blizzard is making balance changes to specific characters and units.
Unlike Starcraft II, Blizzard has offered a full smaller patches for Warcraft III within the last decade. Patch 1.25b and 1.26 actually came out in 2011, with some small fixes and balance changes. There were another few patches in 2016 and 2017, leading up to today's patch.
