Warcraft 3 Stupid Symptoms

I have a stupid problem with Warcraft III for 2 months i think...

First, I had a problem with Black Screen caused by first movie when open Warcraft III, anyway someone from this forum helped me and I was able to play Warcraft, with bots because I can't play LAN at all because of lag

First, I thought that is my internet connection from the hotel where i stay, being a wireless network 10 people or so could join it and I can't play because of high ping
BUT when I went back home, my internet is really good and I still have the same problem that is:

When I open Warcraft III, i join Local Area Network and then when I double-click a server to join, it won't connect giving me the error Unable to join. Please Try a Different Game. This error comes after I wait 10 seconds, but if I double-click to join and then go alt+tab and enter again, I see myself in the game, everything being normal.

When the game starts, after mod is set, the hell begin. I got the" Waiting for host" screen every 3 seconds, until i disconnect.
This is an old problem, but i didn't post it until now because I wished to test it on my home internet.

The above problems are very important, but I found something minor but is still something that could help you:

When I enter in a server my map isn't recognized and it starts downloading it again... although i have the map

If i write -window in Target field after the path, my game won't load, instead it will give me an error like this:
"Warcraft III was unable to initialize DirectX. Please make sure you have DirectX 8.1 or newer installed and that your display drivers are current DirectX may be found on your Warcraft III install CD under Options."
And then when i click OK something else pops out: Please verify that your Frozen Throne disc is in your CD-ROM drive, then click on 'Retry'.

This is my Internet Connection speed from home:

What is your Warcraft III version?

What do you mean by "bots" in your first paragraph?

What about "When I open Warcraft III, i join Local Area Network and then when I double-click a server to join, it won't connect giving me the error Unable to join."?

It could probably mean that the other player didn't have their firewall completely turned off.

By bots he means against computer opponents (eg single player)
Ok.

No, this is happening with all servers not just with only one... every single server has the same symptoms

1. So, you're saying that when you join one of the four realms (Azeroth, Kalimdor, Northrend, and Lordaron), then you try to join a game (custom game or official match-up), it would say "Unable to connect...".

And when you retry, then Alt+Tab, then re-focus WarCraft 3, you are able to join the game you wanted to join into in the first try.

And then, while playing with other players, you keep lagging until you were kicked off from the game, right?

Please confirm the above descriptions, and then I might narrow something down.

2.
When I enter in a server my map isn't recognized and it starts downloading it again... although i have the map

This is normal. If the map you've just downloaded contains something different than the map you already have, it will trigger the download, and you'll end up with two same maps. The main problem is the downloaded map's build version is different than yours.

3.

Try "-windowed" at the end of the target path field. "-window" is a parameter that's not going to let you play your game in windowed mode.

Yes, I confirm all you said!

Also, i solved the map problem, it was actually caused by wrong placement of Download folder.

I tried to play in Windowed mode but it keeps the same symptoms

Thanks for replies!

1. Scan your computer for any virus.
2. Try turning off all firewalls and protection programs. (Avast, Avira, etc.)
3. Go to PortForward.com and open a port.
4. Delete any programs that tweaks your internet. (if any)
5. Report back any findings.

Make sure you do one of the above, report, then do the other.

With your internet connection, Battle.net should not lag...

I would have to go with tom_mai78101, (though i really dont like portforward.com :) )I recommend you check out this tutorial. It is for hosting, but it could be your router blocking other players or something. Also, host bots are very popular on bnet these days, they could be contributing to this. Make sure your system has all the latest updates, and all your antivirus, and various device drivers like video card, wouldnt hurt either.

I scanned my computer, no virus found, i'm using BitDefender 2010.
I turned off my firewalls and still has the same symptoms.

I will try port forwarding too, but is that possible in a hotel? I read that I have to configure the router first and I don't have access to it

In the event that you're in a public place, whether it be in a park, a school, a wireless section, or in a temporary home (hotel, motel, etc.), you won't be able to port up any ports.

Unless you know who's the admin of the internet services, and who you're dealing with.

In fact, the best chance to open a port safety and without much hassle would be at your home. So, if you are playing WarCraft 3 at a hotel, you won't be getting quality gameplay on Battle.net. (Usually, depending on circumstances.)

Have you tried to reinstall? I don't quite get alot of what's happening... But you shouldn't have to DL the an exact copy of your map if the map is in your wc3 map directory. It asks you for your TFT CD, wasn't that doen away with a while ago?

9mb connection is crud if you think up to 10 people are on the same connection, esp if it's an old cheaper model router.

I personally have had no problem playing wc3 on my (crap) laptop while away on vacation and such, hotel internet usualyl isn't that fast for me, but I can get on b-net no problem. Is there llike one hotel you always go to? You could go ask the front desk to meet with the IT guy or whomever handles their connection.

He had already done a reinstall. So, I don't think it's a game issue.

And if I can't get the access to port forwarding... what else should I do to play?

I think it's better for you to ask the receptionist about this. I heard some hotels provide customer services on that. Possibly, your issue might be resolved after asking about this.

Again, please report back any findings. :D

All right, I got access to a cable internet, not wireless and guess what...
I STILL HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS...
so i know that internet is not the problem

...i think if I will be able to solve this ("When I open Warcraft III, i join Local Area Network and then when I double-click a server to join, it won't connect giving me the error Unable to join. Please Try a Different Game. This error comes after I wait 10 seconds, but if I double-click to join and then go alt+tab and enter again, I see myself in the game, everything being normal.") problem then I can play online... I don't know but I feel that is some kind of connection between them...

Then you're stuck with three options. One of which requires luck and another requires patience.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. You need to uninstall the game, deleting your replays, your downloaded maps, and the rest of the mods you might have.

Once you done that, defrag your hard drive. I mean by either using a defragmentation software you really trust on, or a complete boot drive defragging.

You can try one of these: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_defrag.htm

After that, install your game. Do everything until it finishes installing WarCraft 3 Reign of Chaos. Then, instead of installing The Frozen Throne, start your RoC game, go play Single Player, go into custom map, test any Blizzard map and play a melee game for about 20 to 40 minutes, depending on skill. You need to have at least 50 foods used up, and having a large battle with a Computer opponent.

I'll explain everything at the bottom.

In between that length of time, if there's no side effects, quit the game and exit out of the program, and then go ahead and install The Frozen Throne.

Until it finishes installing, go run your TFT game, but don't go into Battle.net to update. Instead, go play Single Player, Custom Map, choose your favorite melee match, choose to disable Computer players or not, and play. Let the game run for about 20 to 40 minutes.

Again, if no side effects, go ahead and update your game via Battle.net. After about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on connection speed, follow the instructions. After that, go to Single Player, rinse and repeat the melee map method, run the game for 20 to 40 minutes. Play as you would for 20 to 40 minutes. If no side effects, now it's your chance to connect to the server and join a game to play.

If the side effects start to appear after you connected to Battle.net and try to join a game, you can be sure that it's the "port not opened/firewall blocking access/the host(s) aren't good enough" problem, and not yours. In that case, you should stop worrying about this and just have to find another play of entertainment.

Why "play 20 to 40 minutes of melee"? There's a bug that affects connection and gameplay, some appearing way before the 1.24e patch. If the bug happens to be the culprit, but disappeared after the update, it means that the problem isn't coming from you. These bugs are quite technical...

If you have patched your game, but the symptoms are still there, then go on to the next step.

There should be some people excellent at detecting problems over there. To post your problem, all you need is your WarCraft 3 Battle.net account, which you use to login to Battle.net.

With luck, you should be able to get a hold of an employee/dev team member. Report your findings, all of it, with DxDiag (but more concisely), your specs, etc. Everything.

Even better is when you Google around and provide links to similar problems others have faced.

3.

What location are you playing your Battle.net at? Play the nearest one.
What should I do if it fails to join a game? Try creating a game of your favorite map game.
What happens if no one is joining? Then it's your port not opened. From here, you need specific technical communication support. You need to learn how to manage a router, what IP addresses are, create a static IP address, learn how to use the DNS, how to port forward, etc...

Ports could probably affect how your game connects with other players. Check your game to see if your port is in between 6112 (including) and 6119 (including), with ports over 6117 rarely used.

Programs could possibly use one of your ports, even though they weren't supposed to. Check to make sure no programs are affecting your connection.

Porting is especially important. Just that.

All right, thanks for your time!
I will try and post what I found!
