WC3/Windows: Get more simultaneous sounds?

I've noticed that the number of simultaneous effect sounds played in WC3 seems rather limited on Windows. I'm running XP, and I've tried all 3 possible sound providers in the sound options (default is Miles Emulated 3D). My sound card is a Conexant integrated laptop something-or-other; my drivers and WC3 are up to date.

This is in comparison to running the game on Mac OS X, whereon some of my custom abilities that play effects rapidly and repeatedly sound fine, while sounding quite dumb on Windows.

Anyone know something that can be done to change this behavior in WC3?

Blizzard support was not helpful on this matter, giving unrelated suggestions (of which I tried the ones I could anyway, no difference found). Anyone have suggestions or their own input (eg. is it normal?)

Well, you can go ahead and send me the map or spell that doesn't work properly for you (with the trigger). I'll play each sound individually to know what the spell is supposed to sound like then test it to see if it's sounding like that or not. Perhaps it's an inherent windows problem, or just the case of a crappy sound card ^^ (mine isn't too hot either, Assassins Creed 1 has stuttering sounds too XD).

This problem is very likely related to whatever is playing your sound, rather than the actual game. For example, try plugging in different headphones, or speakers, and compare the sounds and levels of sounds you can hear. If you notice more with different outputs, it's probably a hardware issue. Have you tried listening to the sound from your mac and PC with the same media?

Er, well, it's not just one map. Imagine it like this: I fire 10 Death Coils every second.
On my Mac, I'd hear *fwishfwishfwishfwishfwishfwishfwish*, a continuous stream of the missile sound.
On the PC, I'd hear *fwishfwishfwishfwish*...wait for those sounds to finish...*fwishfwishfwishfwish*...wait for those sounds to finish...

It seems like the same sound cannot play more than about 4 times simultaneously. It might just be normal for Windows, but I have no other Windows point of reference.

No difference, and yes, I have.

I don't know how you exactly mean that they play separate, but for me on the map i've uploaded everything plays at the exact same moment (fwishhhhhhhhhh asghgghhh) whatever the deathcoil sound is XD . If that doesn't play all at once for you then it is a hardware related problem >.>

Nah, that's not what I mean. ^^ Let me show you an example map, also.

In it, on Windows, although there are Death Coils being created constantly at a rate of 1/0.1s, the sound periodically plays or doesn't play depending on how many times it's already playing, leading to a sort of stuttering effect. Does it do the same for you, or is it a constant, unwavering noise?

Yeah, i get what you mean. When i test the map i have pulses of 4 death coil sounds one after another (brbrbrbr ... brbrbrbr....brbrbrbr....brbrbrbr) After a while it started going crazy, but going back towards that area on the map resets the sound. It must be a windows issue then, but to be honest i never noticed it until now XD.

I'm unsure how you could work around this problem. The only solution i can think of is removing the sound from the ability all togheter, and then playing it via. the triggers. Otherwise, it seems that's the way the cookie crumbles xD

Ah, thanks for testing. Looks like that's just the way it is, then. On a Mac, the same map produces a steady stream of sound. One more Mac/Win WC3 difference!

(Can't +rep you again yet.)

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats

I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
