London (UK) - Scientists from the Imperial College of London claim to have found evidence that life on our planet did not originate from Earth itself. For the first time, the scientists say, it is confirmed that an important component of early genetic material found in meteorite fragments is of extraterrestrial origin.

We had a lot of space and alien stories lately, with one particular interesting making even the Larry King show. But any of that material could be considered insignificant, if Zita Martins’ claims, a research associate at the Department of Earth Science and Engineering of the Imperial College, are in fact correct. According to the researcher, at least parts of the raw material that are believed to have been required to create the first molecules of DNA and RNA may be of extraterrestrial origin.

extra = out, terrestrial = From earth

Out from earth, doesnt it says much?

But seriously, these mans are strange, not saying that their opinion might be pure failure be still, the name says it, they should've used aliens instead?

or what... but i don't really get it!

So pretty much we were molecules of DNA in a metorite. Then we landed on earth. Earth had the perfect conditions to be able to sustain life. The DNA molecules later on evolve into other beings, and in the end us.

If they go with the Big Bang theory, there really is no difference. There was nothing, then it exploded. Pieces were blasted everywhere. This planet produced life. etc.

It says certain parts were found in meteorites. They were on this planet at that time and are thus fair game.

Does it also mention it's EXCLUSIVELY located in asteroids?

"t is confirmed that an important component of early genetic material found in meteorite fragments is of extraterrestrial origin."
No shit...our bacteria obviously came from space stupid scientists...where else did everything come from? Earth didn't shoot everything out, everything formed into Earth...Honesty...why are they wasting our tax dollars on this shit? WE KNOW WE WERE FORMED FROM BACTERIA. Stop wasting time finding out where it came from and spend more time figuring out how the hell we're going to survive the next century!

Well Bacteria is a totally different kingdom... But yes we all know we evolved from single cellar organisms like Bacteria

You know this how? It is almost certain that the first bacteria did not come from space at all. The new evidence suggests only that fundamental organic molecules have come from space and that those molecules may have "seeded" the development of life on Earth.

WE KNOW WE WERE FORMED FROM BACTERIA.
That we do, but this is not what is being discussed.

If those scientists are so stupid, why would they be any better at solving the world's problems than you?

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that we already knew that the start of life came from outer space, or at least it was already a major theory. This article just discusses the facts of where it might have come from, and why it might prove that there could be more evolved life in outer space.

Earth still hosted life though. We're not extraterrestrial.
We are indeed extraterrestrial.
They're not saying that aliens came and cooked us up, but they're just saying bacteria came down from a asteroid or something.

Don't close your mind to things just because you don't want to believe it. :p

I'm following the assumption that the first organisms came exclusively from a meteorite. Earth still hosted the life that landed, meaning we'd be terrestrial. We were at one point extraterrestrial, hosted by the meteor, but no longer. Would you also like to argue what portions of Earth are also foreign cause of it's formation 4 billion years ago? Particularly Theia? Everything of Earth is foreign essentially.

>>Earth still hosted the life that landed, meaning we'd be terrestrial.

So if an alien came here and had an offspring here, you wouldn't consider the offspring extraterrestrial?

They wouldn't be the first life though. Earth has been formed for quite awhile now too.

My reasoning is:

Earth Formation:
First () not equal to Foreign
Second () not equal to Foreign or Arguably Foreign

Earth's Settlement:
First () is Arguably Foreign
() always equal to Foreign

We all came from space dude...Think about it. Earth is in space, everything that formed Earth and everything on it is from space. Including bacteria. We are all from space.

Earth is not space. It formed via the accretion of dust and gases, which originally came from space. That is irrelevant. When people refer to "space" they do not mean "earth" unless they are being deliberately obstructionist (as is the case with you).

Extraterrestrial: a form of life assumed to exist outside the Earth or its atmosphere.

Well... I live inside Earth's atmosphere so I think I'd be safe in not agreeing.
