You shouldn't lose if your base or hero gets killed. If you have a base-based(o_O) ORPG you should still be able to build up your base again after you have got killed. A.K.A big map, lots of building spots.

Two things are realy important: The first one is The terrain and the secound one is Monsters. Theese things makes a fun ORPG. Boss battles and the story behind the ORPG is some things that many players doesn´t work much with but those things can also make it fun. :D

Hmm after all of these responses I have not seen anyone say a party system.
I have created a party system so people can party up depending on how close their level is to each other and if your doing a quest and other people in your party have the quest they also get the kills.
I think this system is great cuz it stops Power leveling. I hate that. Kills the whole fun of the game....
Tell me if this system is good

*Must haves for an Orpg (In my mind)*

Very good terraining (Gives the game more depth than any storyline could)

Large use of custom spells (Why play an Orpg with the same spells as basic wc3? (Some are fine, just don't make 90% of abilities be average wc3 abilities))

Quests (Don't have to be hugely complex, just something to add meaning to killing the next big boss)

Unique Dungeons (A dungeon with units that have high rates of dropping items. What can I say? Everyone <3's items.)

Also using colour in tool tips, game messages, etc, will give your Orpg a well polished feel, and seem like you put a lot of effort into it (Mega bonus in my mind)

Tip: Should require more skill than DotA (Learn which items pwn, buy items, pwn.)

I'm thinking the best part is very well defined and balanced classes

Maybe class quests as well.Which if you were say a paladin, you would go through this chain, working for your holy order and getting things like:
Crusaders Insignia - Magical trinket, 5 all stats , 10 charges of holy light.
Mallet of the Crusader - Weapon, extra strength and dmg.
Cruaders Bulwark - Shield, Damage rebound? Short invulnerability?
Aegis of the Holy Crusader - Armour.
Just some examples.

And Amour sets, Once your Paladin has all of these items, give him some more stat bonuses, all four items, + 10 of all stats?

I think this sort of thing could give a nice strong sense of character.

I've also managed to forget what my other thing was.:banghead:
No doubt I'll remember in 37.9 Minutes.

Talents.
If possible a system of talents would be cool. Every landmark level eg. lvl 10 (out of 100), Lvl 25, Lvl 50, lVl 100 etc. You could get another talent poitn to spend

For the Paladin (I'm afraid so) there could be:
Justice - Damage
Lvl 10 - +40 damage
Lvl 25 - +15 Str
Lvl 50 - +20 Str + 60 dmg
Lvl 100 - Spell - Extra damage buff
Divine - Healing
Lvl 10 - + 200 Mana
Lvl 25 - + 5 armour, + 5 Per Second Mana and Hp regen
Lvl 50 - + 30 Intelligence
Lvl 100 - Spell - Lay on hands. All mana, 70% of hp heal.
Guardian - Tanking
Lvl 10 - + 300 hp
Lvl 25 - + 10 Armour
Lvl 50 - + 15 armour,400 Hp, Hp Regen.
Lvl 100 - Spell - Divine Sheild. + 80% dmg reduction for 20 seconds

Tbh, I'm probably going to use these in a map If I ever get arouhnd to making an Rpg. Or a decent map for that matter.

I hate a RPG with modified camera. I like the way our current camera is. It bothers me. Nextly, I always love a RPG that is easy to learn and isn't too repetitive. Seriously, what if you already went to a forest and got lost? Would be useful if you add a thing when you click a setting you can open up a map which marks the point where are you as well as cities, and other stuff on here. Or, you can base this on our current map - with yourself as a mark point.

Next, I'd like a RPG with helpful quests to learning (you can create a beginner area with helpful quests contained there) and when they are learnt enough, they can go and do quests on their own plus they can know what to do. Make your quests hard but easy to know what to do. Optionally, you can add your own quests that people have to explore on themselves - I'd like that too. It helps challenges the RPGers.

Finally, I am looking for a RPG with cool abilities, as well as their description could be informative. Like listing it, such as what type of it is, is it Aoe? Etc... and so on. TKoK RPG are based on BASIC spells, but they are eventually coded in JASS which that each attribute level increases damage, aoe, etc of a spell. If you can do that, you should do it, but don't try to steal the content of Tkok's.

I wish a good luck to your RPG. If you are looking for a beta tester, feel free to PM me. :)
