What makes the minimap completely black?

From time to time I have experienced when I work on a map, that the minimap is completely black (so you only can see where your units are). I know that turning on Cinematic leaves the minimap in Black Mask thus disabling this effect.

But I can't figure out how to replicate this total darkness, it always happens by accident.

Well, the only thing I can think off is the buttons. Beside the minimap are buttons that interact with whatever you see on the minimap such as changing color of enemies and allies (red and cyan, or their norma colors), see creep camps, and to use night mode (or something like that).

You probably clicked on one of those buttons.

Yeah.. that can't be it. I just checked. It's true that you can turn off terrain visibility by clicking on the eye icon. But if you look at the link again, the eye icon is enabled, which means the terrain should be showing.

Hmm.. After closer inspection I can see a hint of green mixed with brown on the upper right on revealed area though.. You tried exploring the map more? because black usually means unexplored. I'm assuming the brown is units owned by player brownie but not sure about that hint of green

Yup. For the sake of information I'll post how to make the minimap appear completely black.

Go to Scenario -> Map Properties.
Uncheck the second check box from the top named: "Masked areas are partial visible".
