I'm Just curious. What was the inspiration behind your own art? etc... Your drawing, SIG, Avatar, so on.
And where do you get your inspiration? Well, how long does it take for you to make a own art?

It depends alot on what the piece of art is. You can't put a definate timestamp on art in general.

My art tends to be with websites, or regarding them, so I visit galleries of websites and browse for plenty of time until I find one that inspires me with my current project.

Sure you can ! Well, not entirely but on average.
You see, I can make well, let say a SIG, It can take a few month's up to a year. Just for one SIG lol
Before I be really pleased!

Well, I suppose to get a website to the standard that I am really pleased with it can take maybe a week to a month, but this is just an average. It is highly situational and depends on things like how inspired I am.

I agree with Undead... it really depends on what it is... something small like an avatar compared to like painting a portrait is very different...

School work art - 1 week, ha. But that doesn't count. Everything else depends, like what Undead said, on a lot of things, including how dedicated and inspired I am to that the project.

A lot of my large pieces use ideas from me browsing other people's works. I like to use ideas and put my own spin on them. Like in my AP portfolio, the one with the hands and the flower. That was based off of a picture of a statue with an actual flower in it's hand. That gave me the idea of a person's body made out of a different material. I also saw an image that had someone "resurrecting" a flower with cool lighting effects. I decided to combine these two together.

Some of my stuff is original too. Most of my best ideas come to me either when I'm taking a shower or taking a dump :p

Time wise, I usually like to knock things out rather quickly while the idea is still fresh in my head. Most of my stuff I finish the day I start. A lot of my really large art takes a lot longer though (obviously because it's larger). My paintings with oil also take a lot longer because I like to layer up the under painting and then throw my color on.

Seriously, same here. More to the latter. :p

Inspiration comes from works of other (art forums are good places to start). Sometimes, things just pop up. So it varies. Artwork can take from minutes to hours (additive timing from several days of work) depending on complexity or significance of work.

To be good in art, you just need 4 things - Don't be shy to try. Practice. Practice. And practice.

It's been a long time since I really completely draw something out though.

I has question Firecat, what was the inspiration for this question of inspiration? :)

Showers and taking dumps are amazing. Places. For inspiration.

Sometimes if I need inspiration, I'll go talk to my friends. Something they say might sometimes spark an idea.

What do you think the best answer would be to your question?

a) To find creative inspiration, to get me going again.

b) Inspire others to create art.

c) Just for curiosity's sake

d) All of the above.

There might be Moar hmmm

Back when I used to make SIGnatures, the amount of time it takes for me to design my own tags varies dramatically, ranging from 1-8 hours depending on the style I use, with my two main approaches in sig-design being vector and photomanipulation.

[I called it quits for tagging, not out of frustration, but to shift my focus back on drawing, besides I already did 12 SOTWS on one site, +5 additive wins across several gfxsites. I'm satisfied with that^^]

Where do I get inspiration? Basically I owed it to myself to be like the domineering graphics artists in my respective GFX forum, with that competitiveness serving as an inspiration in itself.

It also helps to play music that you love during your work process, if not, groove along by the music you're playing. Not only does music make the process a lot less boring, and make tedious tasks feel a lot less tedious, in some parts of the music (like choruses, breakdowns or instrument solos), at least for me, I'd get a spark of inspiration every time I hear them.

One of my biggest inspirations is witnessing other artists creating pieces of art. There's nothing better that watching another fellow artist sketch a portrait, or illustrate a digital composition, right on sight. I'm really inspired nonetheless by the native artists in my province who offer their services as portrait/live model illustrators :)

Hope these would help you in the long run^^
