whata? Hero gaining exp

Why do my heros gain exp even though they are not close to the combat areas? I mean the are just standing at the starting position and still they gain exp... What gives? Its a team 1 vs team 2 hero arena style, and team 1 are all allied. player #6 is a computer player providing support cover, allied to team 1 and it has nmo heros. Is there maybe a constant that needs to be changed?

I set it to 800 and my hero still gains exp even though the battles are half way accross the map! Is it because of the "allied" setting?

Ahem.

"Heroes can gain experience separately from other units in your army. For example some Footmen can be killing some Creeps across the map while your Archmage is back in town buying things at the Arcane Vault while still gaining experience. Other possibilities include using a Hero to harass an enemy town while your army is off Creeping at the same exact time.

Kills made when no Hero is nearby result in your Heroes' receiving experience. In team games, even your allies will get a share of that experience. If one Hero is nearby, but another is not, only the nearby Hero gains experience. This is to encourage the use of air mobility in harassing an opponent."

I am only "testing" this map with the editor there are no "other" heros present, hence the exp gain no matter the distance.
