I'm confused as to which ones i should use for my abilities. I've got all types of triggered abilities that fire from an event as the ones listed above. I'd appreciate it if anyone can clear this up.

in spell triggered abilities you should always use "Starts the effect of an ability"

a "Unit begins casting an ability" sucks, because such event fires as soon as the unit starts the casting animation, so you can't cancel its effect
that event is however useful when you want to prevent a unit from casting a spell if a certain condition is not met by issuing an immediate "stop" order on the event

In order, from top to bottom:
- To detect a channeling ability, I believe you can, and should, use "Starts the effect.." anyways though. Some abilities need this event though for certain things.
- Detecting an ability being cast, before it's actually cast.
- Stops a spell; Useful for detecting mid-channel stopping, in case your spell does something if the user doesn't finish his cast.
- Most used; Just a general "X unit casts X spell".
- For when a unit finished an ability; Useful for channeling.
