Windows 2000 and directx trouble

Hi guys...

I´m having some trouble loading warcraft 3. Each time i try it displays a message of directx 8.1 not beeing installed, yet i´ve already installed and reinstalled the bloody thing.

i´m using a:
PII 400mhz
256MB RAM
8 GB harddisk
16 MB VideoCard (Diamond Savage4)
Windows 2000 with service pack 3 installed

Any help is welcome...

I can't remember but I think DX came on the WC3 CD so you might want to un-install DX and then just install it from the CD instead of from the site.

If you tried installing it from the CD and haven't from the site then I'd try the download version.

Just a warning to you, I run WC3 on system specs close to yours and you should play in a game of more than 4 people cause your fps will plummet.

Dunno if thet'll help but it can't hurt.
 
The Savage4 is based upon the SiS 540 chipset or lower which may not be supported by the game. (As listed here: http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=mwr0555p)

You should try to update the drivers for this card.

Also, run DXDIAG.EXE from Start menu--> Run and go into the Video tab. Make sure that all acceleration is enabled. Disable it and the re-enable it.

You can also try this:

Try OpenGL or Software Transformation and Lighting (of polygons):
Click Start
Click Programs
Click Warcraft III
Right-click on the Warcraft III icon
Select Properties
Add -opengl to the Target field. (Example "C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\Warcraft III.exe" -opengl)
Click OK and try the game again
If you still experence problems repeat the above steps but replace the -opengl tag with -swtnl and try the game again

The -opengl hint worked fine, now i can get in warcraft 3 main menu, but... know everything is just too dam slow...
does this mean i´ve to buy a new video card ???

that vidcard is not gonna deal with WC3 . you think open gl is slow ?? think again ..
Do yourself a favor and get alteast a 32 meg vidcard . go for a nvidia based chipset card .
if you have an agp slot go for the ati radeon 8500 . they are dirt cheap and preform really really kickass for that price
 
If you are going to use that card, crank the resolution in the game down to 640x480 and use low detail :)

are you having trouble getting into games?

wargy: The game runs ok on my 16mb voodoo 3 with an AMD K6-450 and 128mb of RAM. Until the fighting starts anyway... :)
 
I guess you guys didn´t understand my reply... or i didn´t make myself clear... what i meant is that the game freezes a lot. On the main menu it freezes in 1 second cycles.
 
probably because it can't handle the animations on the menu and the background effects... see above

    And yeah I was working. It was a suprisingly good weekend, I didn't run out of anything until today and had most of resolved. I think the only thing I didn't have some solution for was halibut, but in my defense I got 45 pounds or something last Thursday. It took me like an hour and a half at the end of the night.

    I have two salmon, Sockeye and Atlantic. Atlantic is used for the kids salmon and the salmon and beet salad, and can also be added onto any dish or just as a side. Atlantic salmon will almost exclusively ever be FARMED, as it is endangered in the wild, and we ALWAYS cut them to 4 ounces.

    SOCKEYE salmon, very different and this IS wild caught. We have an ENTREE version, and an add on version. The entree is 7 ounces, the add on is 4. Why? Because that is how someone that wasn't me set up the computer.
