Windows 2000 Professional problems

I just formatted my hardrive and installed windows 2000 professional and i installed warcraft 3. I used to be able to play it when i had ME installed, but i can't now. It gives me an error when i start saying that it could not open/read directX or whatever and asks me to make sure it's installed. I checked. It is. I even re-installed it. Then as soon as i click ok on that error box, it gives me an error asking me to verify that the warcraft 3 cd is in my CD-ROM drive. I click retry and it goes through the same process. So i cancel and give up. Help. I've tried re-installing W3 several times, and nothing. Help me.

As for the Unable to initialize DirectX problems, they are usually caused by 3 things:

1) Outdated drivers for sound and especially video. Update your video drivers from the card manufacturer's site.

2) Incompatible video card. What video card do you have? The requirements are: 8 MB 3D video card (TNT, i810, Voodoo 3, Rage 128 equivalent or better) with DirectX® 8.1 support

3) Direct3d acceleration is disabled. Run DXDIAG.EXE from Start menu--> Run. Go to Display and make sure that everything is enabled. Even try to click Disable, and then Enable again.

THANK YOU! I just had to update my NVidia GEforce2 and it worked. It still gave me the cd error, so i thought to check the cd... Well it had a few smudges on it, i cleaned it and voila! thank you so much! it works like a charm now. thank you thank you thank you
