Windows "Longhorn"

I have a 32-bit processor, a relatively new and expensive one (Intel Pentium 4 3.4gHz EE), and I am wondering if my computer will be able to handle Windows Longhorn? My friend says that it will require 64-bit processors when it comes out in 2006 and that I "picked the wrong time to build a machine".

Is there any truth to this?

Nope, there will be 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Longhorn according to MS. You will want to make sure you have a top-of-the-line video card and a couple GB of RAM though since it has some insane system requirements for that and storage.

BTW, do you have the 3.4Ghz E or the 3.4Ghz Extreme Edition (EE)? The EE is around $1000 for the CPU while the E is closer to $400.

I have the Pentium 4 550 processor, I THOUGHT it was the EE but apparently I got screwed on that too.

Yeah, the EE processors are in the 8xx series. Normal ones are in the 5xx series.
