Windows prob -

Hey all ,

I am not a novice when it comes to PC issues, however.. I cant seem to nip this problem in the bud.

I got a friend, broke as hell, so i built him a PC outta spare parts.

Now the PC boots up and installs everything fine.. all is good.

He takes it home and it works fine.... for about 1-1/2 months, then whenever he tries to boot up, it shows the loading screen, then a quick BSOD and an immediate reboot. endless loop.

Unable to boot into safe mode etc... when I try to boot with logging enabled.. it hangs at Mup.sys.... Any idea what that is .?

I can reinstall everything and all works great for about 1 1/2 months.


He is not on-line, so isnt downloading any thing, and when I take out his HD and put it in my comp to scan... there are no problems found on disk except for the Mup.sys file being horked.

scratching my head on this one .. as I have re-formatted and re-installed 3 times now... and each time same thing happens... after 1 1/2 months of use.. blammo.

Ps. all the components are good, and have been tested. everything works.
 
Did some extensive searching.... found that it could be one of 2 things...

Mup.sys is part of the networking thingy .. so either the NIC card is horked and causing the hang, or the file got corrputed somehow. Its an old NIC so I prolly should replace it anyway... will give that a whirl..


If anyone has any info / advice feel free to post.

    I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun
