Windows XP

I just upgraded from Win 98SE to Windows XP. Now, everything was going perfect until I tried loading my games. Some games I managed to load but several others give me "the file isn't a Win32 application" message. What does this mean? Does it mean that I can't play it under Windows XP? What do I have to do?

under winxp you sometimes have to run a game using the win xp compatibily mode .. start/programs/somewhere (i forgot)
you can emulate winxp in win98 mode .
however this is not a solid solution .
i noticed this mode is rather crappy .
When XP was introduced and we where invited to attend one of MS XP parties this guy from MS would run some real old win95 games with no prob using that mode ..
at that moment i thought cool .
now i am selling it and i see heaps of probs with it . and that compatibilty mode is not so dandy as it seems .

rule of thumb with win xp make sure all your drivers for any piece of hardware are win xp certified ie happy surfing and downloading the newest drivers for xp .. xp installs some real old crap drivers during the first install . i think the drivers in that OS where prior to the 80 year old war and that is a long time ago ..

if you run an amd machine with a via chipset make sure you get the latest 4in1 chipset drivers .

Another Solution

If you right-Click on the link on your desktop to the program adn click Properties, and click compatibility. You will see the run in dif os dropDwon box you can select it there for that specific program.

BTW i did the sae thing you did. From 98se to XP. THe OS runs fine. Its my games which suck so bad it is unreal.

if you want a trouble free version of XP get win2k .
i really fail to see why they had to release win xp beside for some xtra cash flow in their direction .
win2k is stable as win xp and runs games tons better .

Not really true - the Techzone (I think) ran an article on it, found that WinXP was at least as good as Win2k, and about the same (gaming performance) as Win98SE, while being substantially more stable.
This is my personal opinion as well, after several months of using it.

after the release and building a shitload of computers adding new hardware and running into a shitload of problems i think that win xp is a tedious worthless POS . for the average home user with zero knowledge it is a different case .
it seems that many manufactures are in no rush to support XP.
HP will have their OCR software rdy in april 2002 ! duh !! that is so nice when you buy a expensive all in one machine and having XP .
do you run XP ? yes? oh you can't use this and this and this then ...
and then that nice feature where XP does stuff by itself without asking.. who owns your computer ?? you or MS ???

Sure there are good things bout win xp and it will make life easier in the end for now we gotta struggle
