I'm experiencing more problems with my PC. On the Network Connections page in the control panel, it says that the Local Area Connection is disabled and that a Network cable is unplugged, which is strange, because I connect wirelessly. The Wireless thing at the bottom is pushed on, but it stays red.

Clicking on "HP Wireless Assistant" in the Control Panel doesn't do anything.

Any solutions?

Edit: (dv2000)

Try connecting using Windows Wireless Manager, rather than the HP program.

Try Lyerae's suggestion, and/or try uninstalling and reinstalling any wireless driver(s) you have on your computer. There will be specific wireless drivers for your computer on the HP website.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

Try connecting using Windows Wireless Manager, rather than the HP program.

How? lmao, I'm the opposite of most people, I have no clue how to use Windows properly.

Well, you'll have to disable the HP manager first.
After that, you should be able to use the Windows manger fine.

Well, aside from what I've already said, I can't really help, since I've never used the program before.
Just play around with it until you find an option to turn it off (I wouldn't recommend uninstalling it, in case it doesn't work. Then your stuck without Internet.), and once you've done that, there should be an item on the toolbar (on the bottom right, assuming the toolbar is in the default position.) that will let you connect to the Internet correctly.

No idea, what you said, but irrelevant, because I've decided to just use a pendrive to transfer data to the computer.

Thanks you two. Reputation for seph, but not for Lyerae (I must sprrreeeaaad)

Did you not try playing around with your wireless driver, by any chance?

As for your HP Wireless Assistant .... I doubt it has any real effect on connecting to the internet. It's probably just a fancy interface for connecting, instead of using windows stuff.

Don't play with the driver. If it gets corrupted or removed, it'll be a pain to reinstall it, if you even can.

The HP Wireless Assistant is the hardware piece to connect to the internet, not the program to do it.

Ah, so it's connected to actually give your computer wireless access, as in, it's a wireless card, basically? Is it USB-connected then?

Just by the word "Assistant" I assumed it was software that helps you connect. My bad.

No, it's not connected either, it's the piece of the computer inside of the entire laptop that connects you to the internet.

HP Wireless Assistant is a program not an Ethernet chip.

I'd say reinstall the drivers, but for that you have to tell us your model. dv2000 is not it, it should be dv2000xx with 2 letters. Look on the bottom of the laptop on the sticker with the barcode.

I was under the impression that the chip was the assistant, but I suppose you hardware people know more than I do.

Yeah, I'm using XP, I'll install those, I'm assuming it will be fine to carry them over with a pen drive.

Thanks.

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
