EDIT-
i called router tech support and they said i most likely need to bridge connections...ill post if i fix this to let you guys know...
ok, i just got a new laptop along with a wireless router. i have dsl w/ an external modem and from the people i asked at bestbuy and other places..they said that I needed to connect my wireless router from a CAT-5 from my external modem into the WAN port on the wireless router. Since my desktop is right there near the wireless router..im just gonna go wired for that from the wireless router (it has 4 ethernet ports on the back).
so my real question is....the wireless isnt working for my laptop...i have the right encryption key (ive triple cheked that), ive double checked that i have the right channel and i have that. I have tried 128, 64, and no encryption and each still hasn't worked. i think its a problem with the router or something because i can connect to my friends wireless network with no problems...with my desktop i can only connect with the CAT-5 in the external modem and not in the wireless router...
when i connect to our network, it says im connected with the correct wireless network name and it says the signal strength is good. i can also get to the router config from the laptop..ive tried allowing an exception for IE throgh a firewall just to try it but that didn't work....
anything else i need to do? or any ideas for what im doing wrong?
the wireless router is a D-Link 524, if you need any more info just ask....
