XP upgrade

I have windows ME currently on my pc, and was going to upgrade to XP... the question I am trying to ask is will I lose anything currently stored in ME... I have movies and games I dont want to lose or have to reinstall again. Anyone out there know?

If you just use an upgrade dick or install Xp over the top of ME, then no, you won't lose anything off of your hard-drive, however, I would recommend backing up important work and such just incase it goes sour.

sorry grimlock, but i have had my sour times with 2000. I hate it with a passion... mainly my games dont work in 2000, stupid reason i know but i just dont like messing with it anymore than i do at school

I've upgaded from Windows 98SE to 2000 and I am quite satisfied. Maybe your games were not compatible because you did not visit the Windows Update Site or you were playing old DOS games. Windows 2000 has fixed sound and freezing issues on my computer. In your case, Windows XP is the best choice. My brother has upgraded from Windows 98SE to XP Pro and did not require formatting. He keeped every file he had. One visit to the Windows Update Site and all his games were working perfectly. The cartoonish look can be distracting but it's quite a nice change.

well i cant do either now i get errors galore when i try to upgrade and its says its not compatible with ME, oh well no big deal i just stick with ME

What is the full error message ? Trust me XP is much better than ME. I've never actually seen ME but it's probably very buggy.

NNR its not that big of a deal. It actually had a big long script... but its not such a bad thing ya it is buggy but i still like it none-the-less.

I dont agree with you though swilo, 2000 is terrible... it may prevent more crashs, i havent noticed that yet, but it isnt as secure as everyone says it is.

Not as secure ? Please explain yourself. I for one think it is the most secure. Just need to update regulary like any other Windows version.

What are you saying ? Windows 2000 has horrible internet security ? I would think all Windows versions have the same security if you update them often.

oh yeah i totally agree there ME is the worst but i would rather have it than 2000. 2000 is not that good for file protection, it is so easy to open up someone elses desktop and and or delete anything in there. Documents and settings is wide in view and so easy to get into, trust me one of my friends got expelled from school because someone planted a pornographic picture on the desktop. Its not that hard to change or edit in 2000, now XP is a different story... its not so easy to change those kind of things in XP... thats from my personal experience.

Well since I am the only user of my computer, that shows no problem to me. But I still have difficulty believing it is that easy.

its very simple NNR, just explore your c drive and look at documents and settings, if someone else uses a different log on name it will be in there, and you can do about anything to that account very easily... or just delete their folder plain and simple... my favorite is to hide all the folders on the harddrive since i have to share that computer with about a class of 3 people and it always makes them think that i have reformated the computer... cruel, maybe... but funny none-the-less.
