OK, let me first say that until we hooked up this Belkin router, we had NO problems with our DSL. Now that the router's hooked up, the internet works fine, but WC3 and Diablo2 lag considerably. I called the folks at Belkin, yesterday, and they spouted out some crazy stuff about a firewall, which didn't solve anything... so I'm sittin there thinkin about what I could do and then it dawns on me: I have both an ethernet and a USB plugin in the back of my modem... so here's what I'm now trying to do.
I want to hook up the router via ethernet to the modem because my sister connects to the router via wireless card. I want to hook up MY computer DIRECTLY to the modem via USB. I downloaded the USB drivers and installed everything fine, but I can't get it to work (even when the router is NOT plugged into the modem). I called Westell and they told me I had to bridge the modem, so I did. They then told me the call Belkin to finish setting it all up. Well, once again, the people at Belkin didn't have a clue... they didn't even really understand what it was that I was trying to do and just said my router was working properly (because the wireless connection was working fine and when I have my computer wired up to it, it works fine, too) and that it was a problem with my modem blah blah blah. I would call Westell back, but the guy was kind of an impatient asshole about my problem the first time I called and will probably just insist that it's a router configuration problem... whatever... :banghead:
So does anyone know how I might achieve this goal of having my modem share it's connection to both USB and ethernet? I'm pretty good with computers, but am really networking retarded, so I have no clue where to go on this, heh. Thanks for your time.
