Melee Yet another Warcraft 4 project (Looking for crew)

Hello all,
I've set up a project for myself in which I wanted to close the gap between WC3TFT and WoW. Now I'm sure it's been done before and thought of before but I never really saw anyone with a finished version.

My plans are as follows:
-Try to upkeep the original melee feel
-add diversity to the original TFT gameplay
-introduce 4 (or more) full factions

At the moment I've preserved the original 4, adjusted some slightly, and am setting up:
The Bloodelf Exiles (75% done)
The Burning Legion (75% done)
The Naga Empire (needs another name) (75% done)
The Xavian Corrupted (needs better name too) (40% done)

Possible on the do-list once others are done:
The Forsaken
The Gurubashi Trolls

Anyhow, this all sounds promising, but I'm pretty new to modding myself so I'm going to need some help.

What I'm looking for
concept artists (for unit/building/hero/lore ideas)
someone experienced with triggers (my knowledge is basic - running into issues)
(SOON!) playtesters (to help make game balance)


What I'd keep my eye open for:
Models and Icons.

Need new models for:
-3 Corrupted heroes

I have placeholders but I'd like something more fitting for:
-Burning Legion warmill/smelter (HellWarmill by _ViRus_
-Burning Legion townhall (CruelCloister by Gottfrei)
-Burning Legion magic hall (DemonicSanctuary by Gottfrei)
-Corrupted building (Blizzard Nightelf recolored buildings)

Cool, another War4, hope this one actually gets somewhere (all the other ones who tried lasted no longer then a week :p) except me and shady's of course. Looks really promising, how are the races going to be implented in the melee? and by that, I mean how will you actually choose which race you are?

Also, if you believe you are quite new to the modding experience, it might be better that you try a different project first (only small), and then come back to this. I was quite new to modding (only had like 9 months experience) when I started my War 4, and it was a huge struggle at the beginning. Things are coming a long better now, but this is nearly a year later :D

For the Naga, how about Illidans Swarm? I mean, this is of course if you are continuing with the old story (whether you are doing a camapaign or not). I really look forward to this, but what ever you do, DO NOT GIVE UP! Good luck, if you need any help or tips just PM me, I'd be glad to help. :thup:

I could help you with triggers. I do things done in Jass and vJass if needed.
Do you have any kind of communication or instant messaging programme? Like Ventrillo, skype, MSN, teamspeak?

Anyways I have a good feeling about this project. So cool the Xavian Corrupted? You know lore :p (assuming that's a Satyr race) most people don't know about the whole Xavius/first Satyr story (Xavian was named after Xavius).

Also, your races, in actual faction-power level they are all varied. Satyrs aren't quite as strong as the remaining Blood Elves, Naga are much stronger then these two, and the Burning Legion is far stronger than any of them. But you could make it work - like a faction of Naga and a faction of the Burning Legion.

I hope your melee flows and is interesting.

One thing I am worried about is the time period you chose - between WC3 and WoW. In actual lore they just used this as preparation for all the crazy stuff that went on in WoW. Not a lot of interesting stuff. But, maybe you will make it work.

Also, I'm interested in your tech trees. Could I BETA Test?

For the Naga Empire name, you could always you a Naga clan name from WoWwiki, or maybe something involving Nazjatar the Naga capital.

It was the blackice project, it lasted least a half year before I dropped it for various reasons. I didn't update it here much. Only on pollama

Hmm, I don't recall it ever being a Warcraft IV, but I guess the storyline was based after Warcraft 3.

I didnt call it a wc4, but it was a continuation, before WoW and started before Arthas fused with Lich King. So a wc4

Now to answer some questions.

Since I can't extra and edit the .MPQ's I'm planning on making on importing/exporting the triggers/files on a couple of melee maps, which will be distributed as a mappack.

You'll be able to pick your race throughout a dialog box in the beginning of the game.

I've done a Warcraft4 project a year ago, got stuck and never got any support. Nowadays I've picked up my ambitions and am looking for help in communities such as this one.

I'm not making a campaigns, maybe when my project lifts up and I get a capable team up that can do nice maps I'll think about it.

I know lore yes, I read A LOT on Wowwiki. I'm actually thinking of making this race more like the Cult of the Dark Strand.

This is true, but it's not really stopping me from implementing it as a race.

Hmmm, well, it's the best spot and the massive amount of lore is a rich source for me.

One thing you need to remember. If your relying on a team to do alot, then your not going to get far, you need to be able to do a very large chunk of the work yourself, because you will likely not get good reliable pple to do lot of it for you.

Another thing I learned.. If your wanting to start something, dont release info about it unless you have already made some decent progress, because most think of the idea and make a thread, want a team, and if it doesnt get pre-popular youll drop it, or you will lose interest.

Thats my advice. I hope this goes well.

Nothing is done yet. You will need to finish all the races in order to have a beta and if their not done then dont release a beta because it would be pointless.

Dialogue Boxes are bad!
They always mess up cuz people either press Enter to spam chat or click randomly.
At least dialogue boxes at the start of the game when people go crazy while loading, lulz.

You are right - I am somewhat getting ahead of myself. At this moment I have the race selection up for all the races and I have layed down the basics for every race. Tiers, buildings, basic units, barebone heroes. Still need to get to custom (hero-)abilities, custom upgrades, tooltip hotkey and finally - through beta - balance.

I think this can be avoided by having a 5 second delay to the Dialog Box and have the game warn players with a chattext.
At the moment I'm struggling with my race selection triggers. I'm trying to perfect it in a manner that it will only start creating units when everybody has picked. Or, when it's not a full game or with bots, that it still starts.

Honestly just fyi. if your wanting yo rely on lots and lots of support in order to continue, then might as well stop, because you shouldn't rely on that, thats how projects get dropped, and its very common. When you have a lot of actual promising data, people will come. But then also your competing against other wc4 projects
