You should have the link.

You are right Stephen on the thing about the Authentication Tools not being that much of a priority over like an SD Device to keep from having to burn CD Roms. I am about to readjust my priorities based on current stuff.

I wish google would say how many times it was downloaded. They hide the stats totally.

I'd love it it we could get an SD based optical drive emulator for these machines, as well as a way of uploading code via the controller port as opposed to burning a CD-R every time. I would actually say, that is more important for now (IMHO) than getting authentication to work. If we had this, more developers could be persuaded to try stuff.
What we'd need is a boot disc that knows how to accept code downloads to DVD player RAM, then jump to the start of the code and execute. Basically a Jaguar-style BJL protocol but for NUON, probably using a USB to Firewire cable.

Can we continue the discussion of this specific issue here please

Hey, I've tried to install the Linux SDK on Ubuntu 20.04, and when I try to build a project, I get this error:
Code:
merlin-local-gcc: installation problem, cannot exec `vmcpp': No such file or directory

What do I do?

I've never ran linux before, only ran this on Windows. But it sounds like a path variable is not properly set. vmcpp.exe should exist in the vmlabs\bin directory.

Your best bet is to be sure you're installing to the default /usr/local path prefix suggested by the vmlabs install script. Otherwise, you'll get errors like this unless you adjust the spec files mgcc is using, because the gcc driver program won't be able to find its helper binaries, such as the C preprocessor (vmcpp).

I plan on making a script to automate that process better than the vmlabs installer script, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I've just manually modified everything to work from my particular home directory thus far.

Oh, did I have to enter it manually? That might explain some things, I’m used to a path being mentioned being the default if you type nothing and hit enter, so that’s what I did. I’ll try it again tomorrow and enter it manually.

Yeah, typed in "default", and now the samples build, and can run nuance on wine (although it's slower than native Windows). Clean even works, too!

Only gripe I have is that it doesn't produce a NUON.CD. I know I can use a .cof for nuance, but I would like to be able to burn on a CD to test on my N-501. Anything I can do to generate one on Linux?

Glad that worked. The older SDK doesn't have the CreateNuonCD tool. You'll have to do that step on Windows, or also run that tool via WINE after copying it over from the Windows SDK. I just scp the .cof to a Windows VM, ssh in, and run the tool it there.

Oh, so the Windows SDK is a later version than Linux? What differences are there apart from the NUON.CD thing?

Does there exist a standalone tool to convert existing cof files into a NUON.CD?

Yeah, it's newer. The docs are more up to date, some headers and libs have additional entries, and all the tools are one or two versions later. For example, the disassembler crashes given invalid input on Linux, but silently fails on Windows (great improvement). Most things I can't tell the difference.

My plan is to merge both, taking the newer versions where available, into one github repo you can just check out and use on either platform, but that'll be a few nights of dedicated work to set up.

CreateNuonCD.exe is the standalone tool to create a NUON.CD from a .cof file. That's what the SDK Makefiles use. Just run "CreateNuonCD cd_app.cof" and it'll output NUON.CD. Could probably be ported to Linux with enough work. It seems to perform some sort of signing similar to the DVD auth tools, so the algorithm and keys would need to be extracted.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this! Hope you'll keep us up to date!

Where is it located? I could try and run the exe manually through wine.

It would be really, really helpful having a link on https://www.nuon-dome.com/download.html to this post.
I spent a bit of time trying to find it again, and I knew what I was looking for! lol

They are pretty much disposable. I have shitty nozzles though, and I don't think these were designed for how hot I've run them
  • Varine Varine:
I tried to extract it but the thing is pretty stuck. Idk what else I can use this for
  • Varine Varine:
I'll throw it into my scrap stuff box, I'm sure can be used for something
  • Varine Varine:
I have spare parts for like, everything BUT that block lol. Oh well, I'll print this shit next week I guess. Hopefully it fits
  • Varine Varine:
I see that, despite your insistence to the contrary, we are becoming a recipe website
  • Varine Varine:
    Which is unique I guess.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Actually I was just playing with having some kind of mention of the food forum and recipes on the main page to test and see if it would engage some of those people to post something. It is just weird to get so much traffic and no engagement
  • The Helper The Helper:
So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air
