What's the best/scariest horror movie you've ever seen?

Hmm....
I remember The Grudge 2 best, I think I liked that one quite a bit, especially then end where the lights go out after each other in the hall and just before they go out you can see the shape of the creature.

Not really my genre of film, but The Shining has to be a stand out, one of my favourite films ever.

I have seen neither shining nor grudge II :O I didn't like Grudge I at all, so I'll probaly skip it.

On a serious note, Saw is my favorite, because the plot is actually decent while the gore is awesome.

Some of those films are good in their own right but lack any actual level of scare to them. The Shining keeps you on the edge of your seat all throughout.

Or maybe I'm just hard to scare

I hate horror movies, and I find them to be a complete waste of time. I understand what lures some to them, but I for one find that I'd rather not be desensitized to that sort of thing. Well, let me clarify more specifically, I don't like pointless gore or slasher films. In other words things like SAW series or Hostel, which I did watch and regretted later, are a no go for me. I felt gross afterwards and they combine a scary combination of smutty porn with violence which many researchers are concerned about. Beyond this, even convicted killers and serial killers claim that influence leads to ends such as has been theirs.
K, that's my rant, with that said, lol, when I was a kid, there was an Ernest movie that freaked me out and gave me nightmares. It had these or this little green goblin thing(s) in it that really got to me. I think in one of the scenes Ernest has to kiss it. Maybe it's "Ernest Saves Halloween" or something lame like that, I can't remember?

Well, if you want it that way, isn't all movies a waste of time? Live your life, it can be way greater than watching a movie.

Though, I'm lazy, so I prefer the movies. And a good horror movie's the best. There's not a lot of them, though. I'm also kinda hard to scare, which makes the genre harder for me even though I like it for other reasons too.

I haven't seen a single, true, horror movie. Maybe the've made me jump a bit, but that's as far as it goes. Non of the "OMG!!! He's Coming! *covers eyes*" kind of horror.

I like the Plot of Saw and Hostel, although I agree with Father_Yetti, I dislike when they combine Horror, Violence, and Nudity, it seems rather pointless, and a try to hook you into the porn and blood.

I love Hostel and Saw also. I just don't see how you can't like Violence and Nudity though I also like IT. That movie never really scared me when I was watching it... but going to bed that night... ya... (I was little).

EDIT: I don't know if it's really a horror... well.. no I don't think it is but Sweeney Todd is awsome

I think one movie that was sortof kinda scary was 28 Days Latter, because the directer made it so believable, every part. Thats what scares me for the next two days I was like really hope that doesnt happen.
